Gerald Pony Toulouse, 75, died on May 2, 2011 at his home in Plummer, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 PM, Thursday, May 5, 2011 at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Burial will follow in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, Plummer, MN.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Gerald Wayne Toulouse was born on May 31, 1935 to Albert Joseph and Vernice Kristine (Fellman) Toulouse in Thief River Falls, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith in Plummer at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He attended school in Plummer and graduated from Pershing High School in 1952. He enjoyed sports and was quite an athlete in his high school years. He played basketball and softball. That is where his love of sports started. He enjoyed watching sports any chance he got. His uncle gave him the nickname Pony as a young boy and it has stuck with him all of his life.
He served his country in the US Army from 1955 to 1957. He returned home to Plummer, MN, where he worked home construction and bridge construction. Pony could be seen on his daily route around Plummer in his old blue car before stopping for lunch. He loved to play cards and pinnocle. Pony loved to visit and was quite a story teller. He had a good sense of humor and remembered many a jokes. He enjoyed visiting over a cold beer with his friends and family. He was a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by two sisters: Joanne Anda of Coon Rapids, MN and Dianne Braaten of Plummer, MN, eight nieces and nephews. The family of Arlene Kelly was also like a second family to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Lowell Toulouse, and special friend Arlene Kelly.
