Gerard Gervais, 84, died on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, August 17, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Tim Bushy presiding and Con-Celebrant, Father Bob LaPlante. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Red Lake Falls, MN.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. on Thursday, August 16, 2007 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN with a 8:30 P.M. Prayer Service on Thursday evening and also at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Gerard Gervais was born on January 5, 1923 in Lake Pleasant Township, the son of Albert and Bertha (Trudeau) Gervais. He was baptized and confirmed at Gentilly, MN and attended Lake Pleasant School.
Gerard entered the United States Navy on October 25, 1944 and attained the rank on Seaman 1st Class. He trained in Diesel Engineering while in the Navy and was Honorably Discharged on June 1, 1946.
Gerard was united in marriage to Marie LaPlante on November 30, 1946 in Gentilly, MN. He worked as a mechanic most of his life and owned and operated Gervais Repair with his younger brother, Albert, Jr. for many years. Gerard also worked in maintenance at Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls and Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, retiring in 1984.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and was also on a bowling league. He especially loved spending time with his grandkids and the years spent up north at Lake of the Woods, at Rocky Point. Gerard was member of the Sportsmans Club and a 62 year member of the American Legion.
Gerard is survived by his children: Emma (Ron) Kees of Red Lake Falls, MN, Carol (LeRoy) Marcotte of Red Lake Falls, MN, Cecelia Dockter of Cannon Falls, MN and Dick (Kitty) Gervais of Red Lake Falls, MN; grandchildren: Daniel (Denelle) Kees, Jackie Kees, Brenda (Tim) Froeber, Sara (Lon) Pederson, Cynthia (Dennis) Suess, Glen (Melissa) Marcotte, Joe (Angie, special friend) Marcotte, Rick Cable, April Gervais, Katie (Fiancee, Matt) Gervais and Jared Gervais; great grandchildren: Ashley Kees, Eric Kees, Christopher Peterson, Amber Froeber, Lucas Froeber, Rhylee Pederson, James Suess, Jaceil Suess, Alex Marcotte, Brant Marcotte, Macey Marcotte, Max Marcotte and Mason Cable; brothers: John (Joyous) Gervais of Mesa, AZ and Albert (Joyce) Gervais, Jr of Red Lake Falls, MN; sisters: Therese (Ray) Maxon of Red Lake Falls, MN and Aurora Deziel of Maple Bay, MN; sisters-in-law, Laura Gervais of Red Lake Falls, MN and Geraldine Gervais of Oregon; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; parents; brothers: Andrew, Norman, Joe and Paul; sisters: Rita and Margaret; step mother, Antoinette; brothers-in-law: Ernest LaPlante, Harry Deziel, Ray LaFramboise; sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Gervais and Alice Gervais.
