Gertrude Anna Metta Voth Nyvall was born October 11, 1916 in Goodhue County Minnesota to Anna and Frederick Voth. She died peacefully on Sunday, June 22 at the age of 91. At an early age she moved with her parents and younger brother, Frederick to a farm in the Holt area. She attended elementary school at the old rural Manor School, and high school in the Holt School before graduating from Lincoln High School.

In 1939, she married Robert E. Nyvall and they farmed in the Holt community for over 50 years. She was a life long, active member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt.

Gertrude truly had a green thumb and her love of gardening was passed along to her descendants. She was an avid reader and cross word puzzle fan, as well as a skilled seamstress.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Robert F. Nyvall (Sandra) of Grand Rapids, MN; and her daughter Linda Dunn (Richard) of Fredericksburg, VA; four grandchildren: Nathan Nyvall (Tracey) of Woodbury, MN; Martha Erickson (Christopher) of Northfield, MN; Christine Dunn of Bloomington, IN and James Dunn of Fredericksburg, VA; four great grandchildren: Emily and Nicholas Nyvall and Grant and Kate Erickson. She is also survived by her sister Doris Harris of Modesto, CA, her brother-in-law Alfred Steinhauer of Midland, MI and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Frederick Voth and her bother-in-law Walter Steinhauer.

Funeral service will be 1 PM, Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Holt, MN with Reverend Nancy Hanson officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.

Visitation will be 5 " 8 PM, Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to service at the church, Thursday.
