Gladys L. Homme, 85, died on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine, MN.

Funeral services will be 4:00 PM, Thursday, September 11, 2008 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Tim Lundeen officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday.

Gladys Lillian Pederson was born on January 31, 1923 to Lawrence and Nellie (Hagen) Pederson at St. Hilaire, MN on the family farm. She moved to the Rosewood area where she attended school. She was baptized and confirmed at the Rindahl Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls. She later moved to Thief River Falls with her parents.

On June 20, 1942 she was untied in marriage to Gust Homme at Grand Forks, ND. She spent most of her marriage years in Silverton Township, Pennington County. She worked on the farm with her husband. She also worked for over 20 years at Northwestern Hospital in Thief River Falls as a nurses aide before retiring.

She spent many years traveling with her companion Dave Schmeiss They traveled in several of the southern states and spent many winters in Corpus Christi, Texas. Her companion Dave died and she moved back to Thief River Falls in 1984. She lived in Riverside Terrace for about 20 years. She then moved to CNC for a few years and has lived at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine for the past two years.

Gladys loved to travel. She was a former member of Bethany Lutheran and Zion Lutheran Churches in Thief River Falls. Her grandchildren were important to her. She made sure they were always entertained. She crocheted lots of afghans. She liked to do word find books. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary for many years. She was active at the Senior Center, served on the senior meals board for 9 years and a volunteer with the food program.

Gladys is survived by two children, daughter Rosie (Rodger) Shaver, Erskine, MN, son Randy (Ann) Homme, Thief River Falls, MN, a son Gladys helped raise, Mark (Elaine) Pederson, Warren, MN, 4 grandchildren, Tina Homme, Thief River Falls, MN, Jarrod Hahn, San Antonia, TX, Shane Homme, Mountain Home, ID, Angela Homme, Grand Forks, ND, 5 step grandchildren, Russell, Jim, Randy, Mark Shaver and Julie Bratager, 4 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, son Larry, daughter Gloria, son in law Allen Harder, brother Louis Pederson, sister Lila Sunsdahl, 2 half brothers, George and Albert Hestekind, and one half Bella Thompson.
