Gladys I. Johnson, 91, died on Saturday, July 30, 2005 at the CNC unit of the Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 6, 2005 at the New Life Family Worship Center in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Mark Hanson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM at the Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls on Friday, August 5, 2005 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the services in the church on Saturday.

Gladys Irene Kisner was born on July 17, 1914 to Otto and Edith (Garrigan) Kisner in Terrebonne, MN. She attended country school in Wylie Township and the Black River School.

Gladys was united in marriage to Arthur M. Johnson on October 7, 1936 on her fathers farm. The couple made their home in rural Goodridge, MN where they farmed until 1950. They then moved to Ely, MN and in 1954 moved to rural Aurora, MN. Gladys was a homemaker, raising a family. They moved to Thief River Falls in 1974. Gladys in her later years, worked out of her home cleaning, and for the Green Thumb program. She and Arthur enjoyed wintering in Phoenix, AZ for many years until his death in 1983. Gladys continued to live in her home in Thief River Falls until entering CNC in 2000.

Gladys loved to read. She also did much handiwork including embroidery and crocheting. She was an active Sunday School Teacher for many years and enjoyed her womens groups at church. She especially enjoyed her time with her family. She was a former member of the Ely Gospel Tabernacle and the Assembly of God Church in Aurora, MN. She also attended the Karlstad Tabernacle with her children.

Gladys is survived by 6 children: Carol Poppenhagen, Babbitt, MN; Loren (Cecile) Johnson, Greeley, CO; Richard (Harriet) Johnson, Thief River Falls, MN; Joyce (Wendell) Jorgenson, Newfolden, MN; Sharon (Howard) Hvidsten, Hillsboro, ND; Audrey (Mark) Hanson, Thief River Falls, MN; 22 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, 2 sisters: Estelle Helgenset, Melrose, MN; Arlene Avery, Mountain Home, AR, and other relatives and friends.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur in 1983, and 3 sisters Grace LaCoursiere, Alice Mosbeck, infant Ruth, daughter in law Barbara Johnson, son in law Glen Poppenhagen.
