Gladys Johanneck, 91, died on Thursday, May 19, at Northwest Medical Center, CNC Unit, Thief River Falls, MN.
Gladys Peterson was born August 14, 1913 in St. Hilaire, MN, the daughter of Gabriel and Josephine (Eide) Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Hilaire. She was raised near Hazel, MN and graduated from St. Hilaire High School in 1931. Gladys sewed for many people in the St. Hilaire area.
Gladys was united in marriage to Raymond Johanneck, November 27, 1934 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Plummer, MN. The couple lived in the Plummer area until 1939, when they moved to a farm in Gervais Township, near Red Lake Falls. Gladys worked at Land O Lakes, in dietary, laundry department at Hillcrest Nursing Home and St. Joseph Hot Lunch for many years. In 1989 she moved to Sunset in Red Lake Falls.
She enjoyed being a seamstress, needlework, working with ceramics, gardening, cooking, especially making bread.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Guild, St. Ann Society, a charter member of Catholic Daughters and Friendly Circle Homemakers Group.
Gladys is survived by six children: Jean Hagl, Red Lake Falls, MN, Gerald (Jacqueline) Johanneck, Oak Creek, WI, Herbert (Lois) Johanneck, Carol (Leroy) Audette and James (Waivel) Johanneck, all of Red Lake Falls, MN and Joseph Johanneck, Moorhead, MN; 25 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; two brothers: Joseph (Darlene) Peterson, Thief River Falls, MN and Dale Peterson, Minneapolis, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband, Raymond, in 1994; one son, John; one daughter, Marion; parents; brother, Melford Peterson; grandson, David Audette; son-in-law, Don Hagl; sister-in-law, Bernice Peterson.
