Obituary

Glenn Lunsetter, 77 died Sunday, December 6, 2009 at his residence in Thief River Falls, MN surrounded by his loving family under the care of Red River Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, December 11, 2009 at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke, MN with Rev. Katie Koch officiating. Burial will follow at Landstad Cemetery, Gatzke.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Friday at the church.

Glenn Norris Lunsetter was born April 12, 1932 at Gatzke, MN the son of Norman and Gilma (Lian) Lunsetter. He was baptized in 1932 and confirmed in 1944 at the Landstad Lutheran Church, rural Gatzke. He attended school at Pleasant View and Cloverlawn Elementary Schools, graduating from the 8th grade in 1946. At the age of 14, his father died and he took on the responsibility of taking care of his mother and sister. He took over the farming with the help of his uncles, Bernhard and Franklin Lian.

On April 14, 1956 he married his soul mate Grace Peterson of Gatzke, MN at the United Lutheran Church and this was the first event in the new church. They made their home on the Lunsetter family homestead. For six months they moved to the cities where Glenn worked at Northrup King. In the spring they came back to the farm. Other part time jobs he had while farming were at Blacktop Service, Polaris, American Crystal Beet Plant and the Sportsmans Club.

He enjoyed gardening, mowing lawn, playing cards, talking and having coffee with friends, spending time with the kids and grandkids and all of their school and church activities. He also enjoyed music and dancing and listening to the Back Behind The Barn Boys and the Woodpicks. He was a lifetime member of the United Lutheran Church and served on the council. He sang in the church choir, was a member of the Gatzke Senior Citizens Club and the Gatzke Sportsmans Club. Glenn also served as the Landstad Cemetery sexton.

Survivors include his loving wife of over 53 years, Grace of Thief River Falls; 5 children, Melanie Lunsetter of Thief River Falls, Maurice Lunsetter of Badger, MN, Gene (Jacki) Lunsetter of Thief River Falls, Gerry Lunsetter of Gatzke, Kenny (Carrie) Lunsetter of Gatzke; 6 grandchildren, Michelle (Mark) Stotts of Greenbush, Joel (special friend, Stephanie Noreen) Lunsetter of Fargo, ND, Jenna & Carly Lunsetter of Thief River Falls, Gracie & Mollie Lunsetter of Gatzke; 2 great-grandchildren, Michael Eide and Katie Lunsetter of Greenbush, MN; uncle, Walter Lunsetter of Gatzke; sister, Gloria (Marlyn) Sistad of Grygla, MN and their sons Mark & Mike Sistad and their families; sister-in-law, Dorothy Peterson of Middle River; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends and relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Alton Anderson; sister, Eleanor Zacharias; sisters-in-law, Ione Aune & Helen Loken; brothers-in-law, Eugene Zacharias, Rodney Peterson, Ralph Hagen, Olaf Aune & Vernon Loken.

Glenn was always concerned about his family, neighbors and friends.
May his memory be blessed and his quick wit be missed.
