Gloria L. Fossum, 72, of Plummer, MN died on February 16, 2002 at Nelly Ray Hospice House in Gilbert, AZ. Arrangements with Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 22, 2002 at 10:30 AM in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer with Reverend Frank Ehling Officiating. Burial will be held at the Emardville Cemetery at Plummer, MN.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 " 8 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at the Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls and also one hour prior to service at the church on Friday.
Gloria Lavonne Fossum was born November 28, 1929 at Grand Forks, ND, daughter of the late L. Oscar and Louise (Christensen) Braaten. She moved with her family in 1942 to the Plummer area where she graduated from Pershing High School in 1947. She worked for a time at Ottertail Power Company in Crookston. On February 9, 1948 she was united in marriage to Arthur Fossum at Plummer, MN. The couple moved to California for two years, then returned to Plummer where they farmed for a short time. They then moved to Milwaukee, WI where they lived and raised their four sons. She worked for Industrial Fuel Oil as a clerk. May of 1976 they moved to Pocatello, ID and lived there until July of 1978 when they returned to Milwaukee. They lived there until Arthur retired in 1983 and returned to Plummer. That same year they traveled to Norway with her mother and 2 of Arts sisters. Art and Gloria spent the last 17 winters in Arizona.
Gloria was faithful in church, being very involved in any church activity. Sang in numerous choirs including, twice for the Billy Graham crusades and a member of the Christian Fellowship Choir and taught Sunday School for 14 years. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and leatherwork.
She is survived by her husband Arthur Fossum of Plummer; four sons Richard (Nancy) Fossum of Chippewa Falls, WI; Michael Fossum of Plummer, MN; James (Chris) Fossum of Sheridan, WY and Robert (Mary) Fossum of Pocatello, ID. Nine grandchildren John, Matthew, Rachel, Erin, Adam, Stacy, Amy, Mark and Brian. Three sisters Jean Carpenter of Plummer, MN; Dell Claussen of Ridgefield, CT and Merle (Don) Gagner of Maple Bay, MN and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, step-father John Bartels and an infant brother and sister.
