Gordon Baldy Dunham, 82, died Monday, September 05, 2005 at Altru Rehabilitation Center in Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 9, 2005 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Gary Johnson, Pastor Marlow Dunham, and Pastor Terry Dunham officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post #117 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2793.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, September 8, 2005 with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held at the church for one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Gordon Nimrod Dunham was born December 4, 1922 in Karlstad, MN the son of Eagan and Elsie (Rapp) Dunham and was baptized and confirmed at Halma. Gordon received the nickname Baldy at the age of 16 and continued to have good hair life until his passing.
He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940 and following high school, moved to California for a short time before entering into service with the United States Army Air Corps. He served his country from February 14, 1943 to October 20, 1945 and earned the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal and Air Medal. He also received the Distinguished Flying Cross. Baldy served as a tail gunner on a B-24 for 32 missions while stationed in England.
Following his honorable discharge, Baldy moved to Arizona and went to work on the Santa Fe Railroad. He then returned to Thief River Falls and went to work on the Soo Line Railroad.
He was united in marriage to Marjorie Kron in 1951 in Thief River Falls. Together they had two sons, Marlow and Terry. He retired in 1982.
On December 4, 1984, Baldy was married to Florence Flo Bernier at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. The couple has since made their home in Oklee, MN.
Baldy enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, gardening, spending time outdoors, especially at the shack at his 80 acres near Grygla, MN. He was a member of the Eagles Club, American Legion and VFW Posts all in Thief River Falls, MN.
Survivors include his wife Flo of Oklee, MN; children, Marlow (Tonya) Dunham of Wappingers Falls, NY and Terry (Kayle) Dunham of Poughkeepsie, NY; step-daughter, Pam Paul of Minneapolis, MN; 5 grandchildren, Matt, Jon, Amy, Andrew, and Aaron Dunham; 2 step-grandchildren, Cassie and Jennifer; 4 great grandchildren, Skylah, Ethan, Isabelle, Josiah; Sister, Viola Hanson of Oregon; brother, Lonnie (Kathy) Dunham of Oregon; and many other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
