Gordon Garfve, of Thief River Falls, MN, formerly of Freeport, TX, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND, at the age of 76.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN, with Pastor Gary Barrett officiating.  Burial will follow at the Folden Cemetery, Newfolden, MN.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Gordon Willard Garfve was born January 5, 1943 in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Willie and Gladys (Erickson) Garfve. He was baptized at home on June 27, 1943 and confirmed at the Evangelical Free Church in Newfolden, MN. He attended High School in Newfolden.

Gordon entered the US Army and served 1 year in Thailand. He served his country until his honorable discharge in 1967.

He was united in marriage in Texas to Nancy from Lake Jackson, Texas.

Gordon worked on the shrimping boats for 3 years and for Womack Cement Construction in Bryan Mound, TX where he retired from.

He enjoyed hunting, playing guitar and wood working. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Kennedy, MN.

He is survived by his sisters, Betty Olson of Thief River Falls, MN, Arlene (Glenn) Palm of Swanville, MN, Doris (Larry) Nelson of Argyle, MN, Mildred Magnan of Thief River Falls, MN, Lorraine Efteland of Duluth, MN, Mary Ryden of Kennedy, MN, along with many nieces and nephews.

Gordon is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; parents, Willie and Gladys Garfve; sister, Shirley and her husband Willis Bjorgaard; brothers-in-law, Ronald Ryden and Gerald Magnan; nieces and nephews, Mary Nelson, Kenneth Hansen, Dean Bjorgaard, Dana Bjorgaard, Tony Baker and Kristen Jenkins.
