Gordon Knott, 76, died on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at his home in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, January 19, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Gerald Noesen presiding. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN. Military honors will be provided by members of the American Legion Post in Red Lake Falls.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service on Sunday evening and also at the church for one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Gordon Louis Knott was born July 1, 1932 in Gervais Township, Red Lake County, MN the son of Harvey and Lillie (Gale) Knott. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Marys Catholic Church, Red Lake Falls, MN and attended Busy Bee Country School through the eighth grade, then had to help out on the farm.
He entered into service with the United States Army during the Korean War and served from 1953-1954. Gordon returned to Red Lake Falls and was united in marriage to Marie J. Theroux on May 20, 1954. The couple had dairy and beef cattle and farmed small grains from 1954 until Gordon semi-retired in 1993. During that time he also worked for American Crystal Beet factory in Crookston, MN. Following his retirement he worked for the Red Lake County Co-op and also hauled beets for many years in the fall.
Gordon enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and gardening. He also enjoyed helping on the farm after retirement and spending time with family and friends.
He is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a member and past Post Commander of the American Legion Club, a member of the Sportsman Club all in Red Lake Falls and also served as a Board member of the Community Co-op Grocery Store.
Survivors include his children, Michael L. (Karen) Knott of Red Lake Falls, Bruce Knott of Red Lake Falls, Linda (Leroy) Waliser of Stevensville, MT, Thomas (Janelle) Knott of Warroad, MN and Jane Knott of Upsala, MN; grandchildren, Kristin, Benjamin, Christopher, Erika, Megan, and Danielle Knott; special friend and fianc, Arlene St. Marie; great-granddaughter, Jordyn Marie Knott; brother and sisters, Orville (Gen) Knott of Red Lake Falls, Gladys (John) Haupt of Virginia, MN, Eva Lundquist of East Grand Forks, MN and Shirley (Darrel) Swenson of Red Lake Falls; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Gordon is preceded in death by his wife, Marie in August of 2002; parents; grandparents, Leo and Margaret Knott and Lawrence and Amelia (Emma) Gale; and brothers, Donald and Laverne.
