Grace Vake, 78, died Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at North Memorial Hospital, Minneapolis, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 PM, Saturday, March 10, 2007, at St. Bernards Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Monsignor Timothy McGee presiding. Burial will be at St. Bernards Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be 5 " 8 PM, Friday, March 9, 2007 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with a 7:00 PM prayer service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to service at the church, Saturday.
Grace Marie Wiener was born August 22, 1928 on the family farm in Smiley Township, Pennington County near Thief River Falls, MN. She was the 4th of 10 children born to Casper and Susan (Althoff) Wiener. She was baptized into the Catholic faith. Grace attended country school in Smiley Township.
On September 11, 1944, Grace was united in marriage to Franklin Roy Vake at St. Bernards Church, Thief River Falls, MN. To this union a son was born, Roger. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls, where they farmed and worked. In 1951, they moved to Chisholm, MN and in 1954 moved to Babbitt, MN. They continued to live in Babbitt until September of 1997, when the couple moved to Thief River Falls.
Grace was a member of St. Bernards Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, where she was very active. She was a member of the Thief River Falls VFW Auxiliary Post #2793 and the Red Hat Club. Grace loved to fish, travel, camp, snowmobile, garden, cook, and shop.
Grace is survived by son, Roger (Barbara) Vake, Lexington, SC; two grandchildren, Brad (Carol) Vake of Crystal, MN and Brett (Carrie) Vake of Blaine, MN; great grandchildren, Brandon and Carter; brothers and sisters, Robert (Bernice) Wiener of Hibbing, MN, Marian (Orville) Joppru of Thief River Falls, MN, Joan Vake of Chisholm, MN, Doreen Dargon of Thief River Falls, MN and Jerome (Lila) Wiener of Babbitt, MN; sisters-in-law, Rose Boucher and Isabell Vake both of Thief River Falls, MN, and Lou Wiener of St. Paul, MN; brother-in-law, Bill St. Martin of St. Paul, MN; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by husband, Franklin on February 1, 2001; parents; sisters, Gladys Johnson and Cleo St. Martin; brothers, Stanley and James Wiener; brothers-in-law, Leonard Boucher, Ray Johnson, and Andrew Vake.
