Gunda Hegge, 95, of Oklee, MN died Sunday August 25, 2013 at Essentia Hospital, Fosston, MN. Funeral service will be Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 10:30 AM in Salem Lutheran Church in rural Oklee, MN. Burial will be held at the Salem Church Cemetery in rural Oklee, MN. Visitation will be Friday, August 30, 2013 from 5 - 8 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee and also one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Gunda Christine Larson was born February 3, 1918 in rural Oklee, MN, the daughter of Ben and Helga (Larson) Larson. She was baptized and confirmed in Salem Lutheran Church, Oklee. Gunda attended Equality Township School through 6th grade, Garnes Township School through 8th grade and Oklee High School, graduating in 1936. She was the last surviving member of her class. She was a housekeeper and cook for Rev. Lerohl while she worked at Garden Valley Telephone Company, Oklee as a telephone operator and helped raise her siblings. She worked for Col. Whiting in Grand Forks, ND as a housekeeper and for Skyberg Farms where she met her future husband Clifford. Gunda was united in marriage to Clifford Hegge, June 1, 1941 at Salem Lutheran Church. This was the first wedding in the new church. Clifford and Gunda had a double wedding with Gunda's cousin, Mildred Larson and Clifford Lund. Following their marriage the couple purchased a farm north of Oklee where they continued to live until his death in 2003. They had a busy life on the farm raising seven children. They raised livestock and grain. Gunda enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading. Gunda was active in Salem Lutheran Church, Ladies aid, and Sunday School. Her children were also active in the Garnes Go Getters 4H club. Gunda was a fulltime homemaker until all of her children were gone to school and then she worked at Groberg Manufacturing and Arctic Cat. She especially loved spending time with her family. Since May of 2010 Gunda resided at the Freedom Living Center in Oklee. She was preceded in death by husband Clifford; parents; infant daughter, Lorna; grandson, Eric Ventura; and brothers: Martin Larson, Donnie Larson, Goodwin Larson, Engvald Larson and Alvin (June) Larson; sister Leona (Martin) Sletto; sons-in-law Michael Box and Donald Burback; brother-in-law Henry Neff and nephew Greg Sletto.
