Hans Anton, 90, died Thursday, October 17, 2002 at his home in rural Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 22, 2002, at St. John Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN, with Reverend Donald Kirchner officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.
Visitation will be 4 " 8 PM, Monday, October 21, 2002 at the Johnson Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, MN, with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to service at the church on Tuesday.
John Hans Anton was born August 16, 1912, in Lincoln, Missouri, the son of Hans and Louise (Hesse) Anton. He was baptized into the Lutheran Faith on August 31, 1912, in Missouri and confirmed on May 9, 1926, at St. John Lutheran in Thief River Falls, MN. He grew up and attended school in Rocksbury Township Country School.
On May 3, 1941, Hans was united in marriage to Dorothy Anderson in Thief River Falls, MN. The couple grain and dairy farmed all their lives in Sanders Township, Pennington County, MN. When tragedy would strike neighbors such as fire, hospitalization or such, Hans was the first to lend a helping hand.
Hans was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, liked to drive his 4-wheeler and took his grandsons for rides when they were young, loved to reminisce and tell stories. He had a pilots license. In the 40s and 50s he owned and flew a 2-seat Cessna.
Survivors include son, Jon (Janet) Anton, Thief River Falls, MN; grandsons, Ian, Moorhead, MN and Sean, Thief River Falls, MN; sisters, Helen Proetz, Minneapolis, MN and Louise Alger, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Catherine Vigness and brother-in-law, Billy Anderson.
Preceded in death by wife, Dorothy, parents, sisters, Kate Swanson, Christine Mehrkens, Frieda Strehlow, Marie Rondorf and Adeline Laflex; brothers, Christ, Nis and Lorenz.
