Harold Storhaug, 81, died on Monday, August 29, 2005 at Northwest Medical Center, CNC Unit, in Thief River Falls, MN, following a courageous two year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 3, 2005 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post #117 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2793 of Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, September 2, 2005 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN, with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service on Friday evening and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Harold Peter Storhaug was born on August 22, 1924 in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Haakon Peter and Olga (Windsnes) Storhaug. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and attended school in Thief River Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School. Harold entered the United States Army Air Corp, the 29th Bomb Group, in 1943 and was Honorably Discharged in 1945. Following Military Service Harold attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis for 2 ½ years.
Harold was united in marriage to M. Durelle Newbury on June 29, 1957 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. The couple has made their home in Thief River Falls their entire lives.
Harold worked at Lambert Building Center for 39 years, most of which was as manager of the local center.
He enjoyed golfing, writing Rustic Writings for the Thief River Falls Times, writing poetry, picture framing, computer research, and foreign traveling. Harold loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends.
Harold was past exalted ruler of the Elks, past president of Rotary, member of the American Legion, Sons of Norway, past president of Zion Lutheran Congregation and member of Zion Lutheran Church Choir for 45 years.
Harold is survived by his wife, Durelle of Thief River Falls, MN; three children: Mark (Cindy) Storhaug of Alexandria, MN and Bruce (Jodie) Storhaug of Grand Forks, ND and Janelle Storhaug of Thief River Falls, MN; four grandchildren: Lindsey Storhaug, Brian Storhaug, Kaia Storhaug and Mara Storhaug; one sister, Marie Warnecke of Woodbury, MN and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers: Vernon, Robert and Roy Storhaug.
