Obituary

Harry Oen, 83, died Thursday, February 16, 2006 at Northwest Medical Center, CNC Unit, Thief River Falls, MN.

Harry Arden Oen was born August 6, 1922 on the family farm in Pennington County, MN, the son of Henry and Alma (Olson) Oen. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in 1922 and confirmed at Trinity in 1935. He graduated Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls with honors, and graduated from the University of Minnesota at the St. Paul Campus.

On June 24, 1944, Harry was united in marriage to Elaine Juelson. The couple lived and farmed in Rocksbury Township, Pennington County. To this union 5 children were born: John, Julie, Gary, Jan and Jo.

Harry married Julia Judy Kjensrud, October 19, 1985 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN. Together the couple made their home in Thief River Falls. Judys 3 children, Richard, Carol and Christine were added to his union. Harry farmed until 1971 and also taught adult farm management at Thief River Falls Votech from 1968-1981. He also prepared income tax returns.

He was a life member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls and served on the church council, taught Sunday School, served on Northwest Hospital Board, Union State Bank Board of Directors, Rocksbury Township Board, Thief River Falls School Board, Greenwood Cemetery Board, a member of the Heritage Center, where he was instrumental in starting the center and was a member of Golden Pioneers. Harry enjoyed downhill skiing, hunting, fishing and playing hockey. He had occasion to build a couple of ski jumps on the farm. He liked spending time at his cabin at Red Lake.

Harry is survived by wife, Judy, Thief River Falls, MN; 4 children, Julie (Dick) Kroening, Fosston, MN, Gary (Jeanie), Argyle, MN, Jan (Don Thompson) Oen, Alamosa, CO, Jo (Les) Carpenter, Plains, MT; step children, Richard (Pat) Kjensrud, Holt, MN, Carol (Bob) Dahl, Newfolden, MN and Christine (Marty) Howes, Delano, MN; 9 grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 19 step great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by first wife, Elaine, May 9, 1965; infant son, John Woodrow Oen; grandson, Brian Lukehart; granddaughter, Lindsay Jo Lukehart; parents; and brother, Ray.
