Harvey Swenson, 90, died on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls, MN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Ollie Urdahl officiating. Burial will follow at Viking Cemetery in Viking, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, November 30, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM on Saturday. Harvey Oliver Swenson was born on November 29, 1922 on the family farm near Niagara, ND to Carl and Olga (Skadsem) Swenson. He was baptized in the Christian faith. In 1933 the family purchased a farm near the Alma Lutheran Church east of Argyle, MN. Harvey was confirmed at Alma Lutheran Church and attended country school. In 1937 the family moved to a farm north of Argyle, MN and in 1938 he started working out as a farm hand for Charles Widner. Harvey worked in the CCC Camps during the early 1940's. In 1946 while working on the Kiene Farm near Kennedy, MN, he met a telephone operator by the name of Lucy Przekwas and they were married on April 6, 1948 at the parsonage in Argyle, MN. To this union five children were born: twins Charles & Charlotte, Cheryl, Micheal and Debbie. In the fall of 1948 they moved to Seattle, WA to work at the Boeing plant, and in the spring of 1949 they moved to back to Greenbush, MN where Harvey worked for the John Deere dealership. In the spring of 1952 the family moved to Auburn, ND to work on the Harry & Luther Lyken Farm. Harvey worked there until November of 1963 when they moved to Viking, MN. In 1966 they moved to a farm south of Viking where they operated a grain and dairy farm, a farm which their son, Chuck eventually purchased from them. In 1976 they sold the cows and spent the next 25 winters in Mesz, AZ. Harvey enjoyed reading, playing cards, dancing, having a new car (preferably Oldsmobiles) and he especially enjoyed farming, friends & his family. He was a member of the Eagle's Club since the early 1950's. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Lucy of Thief River Falls; children, Chuck (Layne) Swenson of Viking, MN, Charlotte (Randy) Cooper of Hastings, MN, Cheryl (Jerome) Peters of Viking, MN, Micheal (Linda) Swenson of St. Paul, MN and Debbie (Tom) Meyer of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Brian (Alisa) Swenson, Kerri Swenson, Robbie Swenson, Christopher (Deb) Bjorgaard, Cheri Krohn, Russell Bjorgaard, Eric (Jenny) Bjorgaard, Kimberly Chwialkowski, John (Jen) Peters, Micheal (Kim) Swenson, Emily Kampa, Kristi Bergeron, Teri Bergeron, Tony Bergeron; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Clyde (Beverly) Swenson of Newfolden, MN; sister-in-law, Angeline Nowacki of Alexandria, MN; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy and Morris Swenson; and sister, Sybil Peterson.
