Obituary

Hattie Taggart, 91, died on Friday, August 13, 2010 at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls, MN surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 16, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. George Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM with a prayer service at 5:30 PM on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral on Monday.

Hattie Mae Taggart was born in Cushing, MN the daughter of Richard and Minnie (Lilgren) Garrison. She was raised, attended school and grew to adulthood in Itasca County.

When Hattie was 19, she was united in marriage to Jim Rich and to this union four daughters were born, Myrna, Sharon, Betty and Janice.

Hattie was married to Russell Hilligoss and together they lived and worked in the logging camps in the Grand Rapids area. They had 6 children together, Leatta, Esther, Susie, Carol, Robert and Candice.

Hattie moved to northwestern Minnesota where she met and married T.R. Taggart and they made their home in Thief River Falls with Russells sons, Ross and Rodney. They lived in the Thief River area since 1969.

Throughout her life, Hattie volunteered for the Salvation Army. She helped prepare Christmas baskets and enjoyed ringing the Christmas Bells. Some of her favorite pastimes were completing word find puzzles, watching TV, reading, watching birds and visiting.

Hattie was very aware and interested in what was going on in her childrens lives, always encouraging them. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her children, Myrna Samuels of North Carolina, Sharon Samuels of New Jersey, Leatta (Robert) Leier of Michigan, Esther (Donald) Mack of Warroad, MN, Susie (Larry) Lenhart of Pennsylvania, Robert (Jennifer) Hilligoss of Warroad, MN, Candice Hilligoss of Thief River Falls, MN, Rodney (Linda) Taggart of Thief River Falls, MN, and Ross Taggart of Oklee, MN; sister, Flora Skinaway of Nett Lake, MN; brothers, Walter Garrison and his friend, Grace of Grand Rapids, MN, Butler Garrison and his friend, Marion of Princeton, MN, Doran Francis of Washington state; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husbands; parents; children, Janice Groll, Betty Rich and Carol Hilligoss; 6 sisters and 7 brothers.
