Obituary

Hazel Doyea, 93, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Chuck Huck presiding. Burial will follow at St. Dorothy Cemetery in Dorothy, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Sunday at the church.

Hazel Lauretta Kennedy was born on August 31, 1916 in Scott, Saskatchewan the daughter of Lewis and Mary (Menke) Kennedy. She was baptized into the catholic faith in Canada. She went to first grade at Minto, ND and also attended schools in Johnstown, ND and Fisher, MN. The family settled on a farm near Dorothy, MN.

Hazel met Albert Doyea and the couple was eventually married on January 7, 1936 at St. Dorothy Catholic Church. To this union five children were born, Joyce, Donna, Dennis, Kay and Jerry. From 1936 until 1943 they lived on a farm in Parnell Township, Polk County, MN and then purchased their own farm in Louisville Township, Red Lake County where they farmed and lived. Hazel worked at the locker plant in Dorothy and did sewing from her home. In 1990 they moved into Sunset Court in Red Lake Falls and in 2008 she moved into Hillcrest Nursing Home.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening and being a farm wife; her whole life revolved around her faith and her family. She was a member of St. Dorothy Catholic Church and St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was active in the Ladies Guild. Hazel was a member of St. Annes Society, Hillcrest Auxiliary, Red Hat Society, Sunset Site Council, and Lutheran Social Services Council. She wrote the Dorothy news for the Crookston Daily Times and Red Lake Falls Gazette; she also made and sold crafts for the Senior Citizen Craft Center in Red Lake Falls. Hazels entry was selected for naming Our Northland Diocese.

Survivors include four children, Donna Greskowiak of Hibbing, MN, Dennis (Karen) Doyea of Hoyt Lakes, MN, Kay (Jim) Boutain of Red Lake Falls and Jerry (Pam) Doyea of Fargo, ND; 14 grandchildren, Becky (Mike) Robinson, Craig (Shelley) Boutain, Steve (Lisa) Boutain, Peggy (Phil) Giers, Sandra (Dale) Persson, Bradley (Kim) Greskowiak, Brent (Karol) Greskowiak, Deanna (Matt) Mickelson, David (Cara) Doyea, Allan Boutain, Karrie (Neil) Knaack, Brian (Brigette) Boutain, Cindy (Jay) Pahlen and Carly (Andrew) Brandt; great-grandchildren, Cody & Tyler Robinson, Troy & Dan Boutain, Mallory, Katelyn & Ben Boutain, Jason, Jessica & Marissa Giers, Billy, Kasey & Leslie Persson, Koryn, Sara & Claire Greskowiak, Regina, Sarina, John & Julia Greskowiak, Lee & Luke Mickelson, Blake, Haley & Caitlin Doyea, Parker & Khloe Knaack, Hunter, Riley & Reese Pahlen, Zachary & Tanner Boutain, Grace & Thomas Brandt; great-great grandchild, Aiden Boutain; sister, Mary Lou Tucker of Euclid, MN; special friend, Donna Benoit; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert in 1991; parents; daughter, Joyce in 1995; sons-in-law, Ray Boutain, Don Kirk and Maurice Greskowiak; brothers, Ronald and Carl Kennedy; and sisters, Marie Kollasch, Lorraine Doyea and Bernice Doyea.
