Hazel Maves, 92, died Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be 11 AM, Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Mark Helgeland officiating. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church, Wednesday.

Hazel Lillian Melin was born on August 13, 1918 to Carl Richard and Elida (Anderson) Melin in Wylie, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Black River Lutheran Church. She attended country school and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1935.

She was united in marriage to Wilbert G. Web Maves on July 3, 1943 at Black River Lutheran Church in rural Thief River Falls, MN. She worked at the Thief River Falls Chamber of Commerce in the 1950s and retired from the ASC office in the 1970s. She wintered in Tucson, Arizona for 26 years where she attended the Dove of Peace Lutheran Church.

She was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and her circle, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Society at Summerfield Apartments.

Hazel is survived by one son Jim (Debbie) Maves, Woodbury, MN, sister in law Izzie Melin, Thief River Falls, MN, one niece Shelly (Kirby) McFarlane, Thief River Falls, MN, nephew Tom (Val) Melin, Ada, MN, nephew Charles (Donna) Maves, Frazee, MN, and three nieces Nancy Schauer, Patty Anderson and Daisy Christopherson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Web in 1992, and brother Leonard Melin.
