Helen Brandt, 79, of Thief River Falls, MN died Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Helen Christine Friberg was born on June 2, 1929 to Harry and Christine (Olson) Friberg on the family farm near Roseau, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Roseau. She attended elementary school in Falun, MN and graduated from Roseau High School. Later she graduated from the Agriculture College in Crookston, MN. She worked for a short time at First National Bank in Roseau before marrying Curtis Brandt in Roseau on August 27, 1948. To this union four children were born: Douglas, Louise, John and Paul. They lived in Malung Township for a short time and then moved to Roseau where they lived until 1963 when the family moved to Thief River Falls. While in Thief River Falls she worked at Woolworths for a few years.
Helen and Curtis loved to dance. Helen enjoyed reading and after her loss of sight enjoyed listening to books on tape. She also enjoyed watching the birds in her yard and was a big Jeopardy fan. Helen was a charter member of the Eagles in Thief River Falls.
Helen is survived by her husband Curtis of Red Lake falls; 4 children: Douglas Brandt of Thief River Falls, Louise Brandt of Brooklyn Center, MN, John (Kristi) Brandt of Fargo, ND, Paul (Amy) Brandt of Thief River Falls; 6 grandchildren: Mandy (Jason) Schuster of Thief River Falls, Becky Brandt of Plummer, MN, Katy Brandt of Colorado Springs, CO, Emileigh Brandt of Helena, MT, Jacob Brandt of Fargo, ND and Alex Brandt of Fargo, ND; 3 sisters Lillian Tolpingrud of Baudette, MN, Jean Ellen (Darvin) Johnson of Roseau, MN, Eileen Howdahl of Baudette, MN as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
