Helen Paschke was born on August 20, 1916 in Walsh County, near Warsaw, ND, the daughter of Joe and Frances Paschke. She was baptized and confirmed at Warsaw. She grew up and attended Oslo School.

On August 29, 1933, Helen was united in marriage to Leonard Bushaw at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Warsaw. The couple farmed at Oslo for a short time before moving to Angus, MN, where they farmed from 1936 " 1944. They operated the Home Caf in Oslo from 1944 " 1947, the Big Woods Grocery Store from 1947 " 1950, the Oslo Home Caf from 1950 " 1952 and Johnnies Caf in Thief River Falls from 1952 " 1967. In 1967, they operated the Childrens Toggery until 1971. Helen then worked in the kitchen for the Thief River Falls School District.

Helen liked cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, gardening, canning and watching sports on TV. She enjoyed watering the flowers at the cemetery and driving in her red pickup.

She was a member of St. Bernards Catholic Church, the National Catholic Society of Foresters, was a volunteer at church and the Northwest Hospital and belonged to the Hospital Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. She liked visiting friends at Valley Home and socializing, discussing politics and solving the world problems with friends at McDonalds after morning mass.

Survived by daughter, Gloria (David) Bjorkman, Thief River Falls, MN; sons Ronald (Louella) Bushaw, Fargo, ND and Dennis (Colleen) Bushaw, McCammon, ID; eleven grandchildren, Peggy Henegar, Pat Bushaw, Perry Bushaw, Paul Bushaw, Pete Bushaw, Denise Angstadt, Maria Cheatham, Keith Bushaw, Damon Bushaw, Paula Ashby and Karl Bjorkman; 19 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.

Preceded in death by husband, Leonard, April 9, 1995; daughter, Sharon; great granddaughter, Catherine and 19 brothers and sisters.

All memorials will be given to the community as per her wishes.
