Obituary

Helen Dahlstrom, 88, died Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Oakland Park Nursing Home, Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be 2 PM, Saturday, December 23, 2006, at Evangelical Covenant Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Merrill Kindall officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be 4 " 7 PM, Friday, December 22, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to service at the church, Friday.

Helen Vivian Reierson was born May 26, 1918 in Marshall County, near Holt, MN daughter of the late Peander P. and Othelia Caroline (Nohre) Reierson. She grew up in Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln high School in 1936. She worked at Crookston and Thief River Falls for the Farm Security Administration.

On June 15, 1940 she was united in marriage to Alvin Theodore Dahlstrom in Thief River Falls. The couple made their home west of St. Hilaire on a farmstead where they lived from 1940 until 1947 when they moved into Thief River Falls. Helen was a stay at home mom raising her children and she sold wedding and graduation announcements.

Helen had played the piano and organ since she was nine years old playing for 79 years. She played for numerous funerals, weddings, Sunday services and always enjoyed playing at area nursing homes. Helen loved the time spent with her grandchildren; she also enjoyed baking and garage sales. She was a collector of cup and saucers, owls and candles. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, the Christian Women and the Covenant Women and was very active at the Heritage Center. She also enjoyed meeting once a month with a group of her classmates.

Helen is survived by her six children Lois (Roger) Mott of Hope, ND; Paul (Karen) Dahlstrom of Thief River Falls, MN; David (Janet) Dahlstrom of Fergus Falls, MN; Dan (Lisa) Dahlstrom of Fort Worth, TX; Jim (Jocelyn) Dahlstrom of Thief River Falls, MN; Tim (Kathy) Dahlstrom of Cambridge, MN: grandchildren Brad Nelson, Derek Dahlstrom, Bobbi Dahlstrom, Elisabeth Dahlstrom, Andrew Dahlstrom, Jennifer Gust, Jon Dahlstrom, Leah Dahlstrom and Kristina Dahlstrom along with 2 great-grandchildren Emma Gust and McKayla Dahlstrom. She is also survived by her brother Wally (Ivadell) Reierson of Thief River Falls, MN.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Husband Alvin in 1989; infant sister Lillian and three brothers Vernon, Leslie and Joseph.
