OBITUARY NOTICE FOR REV. HENRY G. CARRIERE
RED LAKE FALLS, MN
Reverend Henry G. Carriere, 83, died Monday, November 3, 2003 at Villa St. Vincent, Crookston, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, November 6, 2003 at St. Josephs
Church, Red Lake Falls, MN, with Bishop Victor Balke Celebrant and the Priests of the Crookston Diocese, Con-celebrants . Burial will be at St. Josephs Cemetery, Red Lake Falls.
Visitation will be 5 " 7 PM, Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at St. Josephs Church, Red Lake Falls, with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Henry George Carriere was born May 9, 1920, in Red Lake Falls, MN, the son of Theodore Eugene and Mary Jane (Lacoste) Carriere. He grew up in Red Lake Falls where he attended St. Josephs Grade School from 1927-1935 and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1938. He then attended Crosier Preparatory Seminary in Onamia, MN from 1938-1941 and St. Paul Seminary, St. Paul, MN, from 1941-1946. On June 16, 1946, he was ordained at St. Josephs, Red Lake Falls, MN, by the most Reverend Francis Schenk, Bishop of Crookston.
Father Carriere was an assistant at St. Annes, Crookston, MN, and St. Joseph, Fertile, MN from 1946-48, St. Philip, Bemidji, MN, 1948-1950, St. Rose, Argyle, MN, St. Mary and Radium, MN, from 1950-1952. He was an Administrator at St. Lawrence, Guthrie, MN and St. Theodore, Laporte, MN 1952-1955. He was a Chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital, Park Rapids, MN from 1952-1955. He served as Pastor at St. Joseph, Brooks, MN, from 1955-1972, St. Vincent, Plummer, MN, from 1965-1969, St. Anthony, Terrebonne, from 1969-1972, St. Rose, Argyle, MN, from 1972-1982, Sacred Heart, Roseau, MN and St. Mary, Badger, MN, from 1982-1990. On July 2, 1990, he retired. He lived in the Badger, MN area until moving to Villa St. Vincent at Crookston, MN in June of 2000.
He served as Priest of the Crookston Diocese. He enjoyed carpentry and helped design the Senior Housing at Brooks, MN and several other building projects. He also enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by two sisters, Therese (Thomas) Dziuk, West Covina, CA and Mary Ann (Albert) Teubert, Glencoe, MN; two sisters-in-law, Alice Carriere, Red Lake Falls, MN and Agnes Carriere, La Crescenta, CA.
Preceded in death by parents; 3 sisters, Sister Maurus Carriere, Bertha Bruns and Celinare Bucknell; 6 brothers, Joseph, Mark, Arthur, Ernest, Dona and Leo.
