Henry Schmitz, 86, of Red Lake Falls, MN, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the Villa St. Vincent nursing home in Crookston, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Bob Schreiner presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. His final resting place will be St. Joseph Cemetery, Red Lake Falls, MN at a later date.
Henry Schmitz was born July 7, 1931 son of the late Bernard and Elizabeth (Knott) Schmitz Sr. of Red Lake Falls.
He served in the U.S. Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1955.
Henry was united in marriage to Phyllis St. Marie on September 1, 1956 in Red Lake Falls, MN. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he worked for Bucyrus-Erie for a short time then returned to Red Lake Falls. Henry worked at various jobs in Red Lake Falls, Standard Oil, Thibert's Sports Center, Detroiter Mobile Home/Homark, and his dream job Oak Knoll's Golf Club. Hank enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, trap shooting, and small engine repair.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion Post #22, Oak Knoll's Golf Club, Pathfinders Snowmobile Club, and the Sportsman's Club.
Henry is survived by his wife Phyllis. Children: Debbie (Mark) Borgwardt, Racine, WI; Nancy (Ronald) Baird, Red Lake Falls ,MN; Dale Schmitz, Red Lake Falls, MN; Tanya (Chuck) Gjerstad, Savage, MN; Daughter-in-Law Jenny Schmitz, Red Lake Falls, MN. Grandchildren: Brandon and Ashley Borgwardt, Aaron Baird, Taylor and Brittany Gjerstad; Madison and Blane Schmitz. Great Grandchildren: Noah Borgwardt and Aubrey Baird. Brothers and sisters: JoAnn Derosier, Monica Stephens, Linus (Beverly) Schmitz all of Red Lake Falls, MN; Leon (Diane) Schmitz of Park River, ND; Marlys (Charlie) Martin of Tye, TX; Margaret (Jerome) Schindler of Red Lake Falls, MN. Henry is preceded in death by his son, Chad Schmitz, parents, brothers Alois and Bernard Schmitz, Jr., brother-in-Laws, George Derosier and Chuck Stephens.
