Herbert Goethe, 89, died October 28, 2011 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine, MN.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, October 31, 2011 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN, with Reverend Mark Helgeland officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be 5-8 PM, Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to the service at the church, Monday.
Herbert G. Goethe was born May 19, 1922 in Thief River Falls, MN to Henning Gustav and Lydia Rose (Klockmann) Goethe. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He attended school and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940.
He served his country by enlisting December 5, 1942 in the United States Army Air Force. He received his honorable discharge February 1, 1946.
On April 9, 1947, Herbert was united in marriage to Blanch Agnes Rondorf at First Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN. They lived near Mavie for a short time before buying a farm in Kratka Township. The couple lived and farmed there for many years. He also worked at Sears, Brodin's, Arctic Cat, and American Crystal Sugar for some time. From 1980 until 1985 they lived with their daughter Esther in St. Louis Park, MN and returned home to their farm every weekend. He worked at Rosemont Industries while living there. Herb has lived at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine for the last 4 ½ years.
He held memberships with Thief River Falls American Legion and Eagles. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He and Blanch loved to go dancing nearly every weekend.
He is survived by three children, Diane (Rod) Peterson, Thief River Falls, MN, Esther Pollard, St. Louis Park, MN and Howard (Ann) Goethe, Thief River Falls, MN; son-in-law, Ben Kleinwachter, Strandquist, MN; 12 grandchildren, Melissa (Dennis) Kohler, Fort Collins, CO, Rachael (Martin) Moegelein, Thief River Falls, MN, Rebecca (Jay) Hanson-Walker, Eugene, OR, Leah Hopkins, St. Paul, MN, Natalie Hopkins, St. Louis Park, MN, Don Pollard Jr, St. Louis Park, MN, Hayden Goethe, Fargo, ND, Luke (Tiffany) Goethe, Thief River Falls, MN, Kyle (Jamie Hunt) Goethe, Grand Forks, ND, Sara (Keith) Pic, Fargo, ND, Mark and Brian Kleinwachter, Strandquist, MN, eight great grandchildren, two sisters Ruth Schmitz, Edina, MN, Ardith (Bert) Thorstad, Prescott Valley, AZ, and several nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Preceded in death by wife, Blanch on March 31, 1998; daughters, Emily Goethe and Dee Kleinwachter, parents, son-in-law, Ron Hanson, and brother Lawrence Goethe.
