Hilda Linder, 99, died on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, January 2, 2012 at Salem Lutheran Church in Oklee, MN, with Pastor Margaret Jacobus officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee, MN, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday at the church. Hilda Larson Linder was born on September 3, 1912 at home, on the family farm in Equality Township, Red Lake County, MN, the daughter of Thor and Engeborg (Nereson) Larson. For generations, Hilda's family attended Salem Lutheran Church. Her parents brought her there as a baby for her baptism, helped her in forming her faith by regularly attending church and later confirming that faith. As a young lady, Hilda was united in marriage to Alvin Linder at Salem Lutheran on November 8, 1945. Just as her parents taught her, she and Alvin brought their children to church at Salem. Throughout her life she was very active in her church. Hilda grew up in the Oklee area and attended the rural Sunnyside School. As a young girl she worked for a number of neighbors, helping with cooking and child care. Later Hilda worked for Lindom Farms near Fisher as a cook and baker for the farm workers. She also worked for Parish Bakery in Grand Forks, ND, where she learned many baking skills. Following her marriage to Alvin, the couple bought a farm in Garnes Township, rural Plummer, where they raised dairy cattle and small grains. Hilda and Alvin were blessed with two children, Elaine and Dennis. They farmed until their retirement and continued to live on the farm for the remainder of their lives. Hilda was an avid quilter, baker, and gardener. She has donated hundreds of quilts to Lutheran World Relief, including 9 quilts this past November. On the morning of Christmas Eve she was preparing her made-from-scratch brownies for her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Hilda is survived by her children, Elaine (Dennis) McGeary of Oklee, MN, and Dennis Linder of Plummer, MN; grandchildren, Paul (Lynette) McGeary of Springfield, CO, Dana (Mike) Flint of Elbow Lake, MN, Erica (Jeremy) Larson of Thief River Falls, MN, Joseph (Lori) Linder of Wrenshall, MN, Dan Linder of Alvarado, MN, and Shannon Linder of Osakis, MN; great-grandchildren, Damon, Kallysa, Tucker, Cooper, Blake, Gavin, Jordan, and Carter; sisters, Bertine Swanson of Thief River Falls, MN, and Thea Howe of Eagan, MN; brother, Elmer Larson of McIntosh, MN; several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Preceding her in death are her husband, Alvin in 1994; brothers, Lars, Tarjei, and Henry; sisters, Mabel Moe and Clara Wardner.
