Hilda Rue, Thief River Falls, MN, age 101, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 15, 2019 at McIntosh Senior Living Center, McIntosh, MN.

Funeral services will be Monday September 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Vickie Saude-Worthington officiating.  Burial will be in St. Petri Cemetery, near Grygla, MN

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.

Hilda Josephine Trontvedt was born November 27, 1917 in Grygla, MN, the daughter of Thor and Caroline (Tronnes) Trontvedt.  She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at St. Petri Lutheran Church, Grygla, MN and attended Country School in Eckvall Township.

Hilda married Elmer Holton in 1938 in San Diego, CA and to this union two children were born, Bruce and Jo Ann.  They lived in San Diego for about 9 years and Hilda returned to Grygla.  She was united in marriage to Carl Rue, December 6, 1948 at the parsonage in Mavie, MN.  They farmed in Eckvoll Township, west of Grygla, and the couple celebrated 56 years of marriage.  Carl died November 28, 2005.

She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends.  Hilda was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle Church, Grygla, where she was active for 50 years.  Witnessing for Jesus and church were Hilda's life.  She took pride in caring for older people and helped raise the Jelle children for nine years.

Hilda is survived by two children: Bruce (Carol) Holton, Hollister, MO and Jo Ann  Waterman, Redwood Falls, MN; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and 5 great-greatgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; two brothers: Tommy and Selmer Trontvedt; sister, Beatrice Talbert; granddaughter, Brenda Holton; and great granddaughter, Taylor Anderson.
