Obituary

After a courageous struggle with cancer, Hildegarde Hamre died on November 4, 2004, at the age of 81 years, when she was lovingly taken home by her Lord.

Hildegarde Pernilla Green was born April 8, 1923 in Thief River Falls, MN, the daughter of Carl Martin Green and Marion Violet (Fanning) Green. She was both baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. Hildegarde attended Knox Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1941.

After graduation, Hildegarde worked in the position of bookkeeper for Greggs Cooper in St. Paul, MN, Nash Finch in Thief River Falls, MN and ended her career in Thief River Falls with the J and B Drug Store.

Hildegardes wedding took place at Zion Lutheran Church, where she was joined in marriage with Bennie Hamre, July 6, 1952. While they had no children, they became a very dear aunt and uncle, not only to their many nieces and nephews, but to neighborhood children as well. Dee, as the children called her, loved to re call the many humorous incidences they had provided. Saturday morning pancakes became a tradition for them. The family often gathered at their home for holidays.

Hildegarde had a deep and abiding faith and was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she found many ways to contribute. She loved and enjoyed her time with family and her many dear friends. She did beautiful handwork, was a master cake decorator, enjoyed raising lovely flowers and plants and in her younger years was known as an excellent bowler. Many will remember how beautifully she whistled.

Left to cherish her memory are three sisters: Dorothy Soeby, Tillmook, OR, Carmen (Clifford) Larson, Thief River Falls, MN and Helen Seline, Albert Lea, MN; two brothers: Paul (Glorian) Green, Edina, MN and Donald (Phyllis) Green, Detroit Lakes, MN; sisters-in-law, Agnes Enmark, Glenwood, MN, Frances McFarland, Rio Linda, CA, Bertha Hegland, Prescott, AZ and 44 dear nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Hamre, her parents, brother, Carl Green, sister, Marion Lorenson, brothers-in-law, Herbert Seline and William Soeby.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Helen Peterson for her loving support and constant helpfulness, and to her friends and neighbors for their many caring acts of kindness.

Donations may be made in her memory to Zion Lutheran Church, First Care Hospice or a preferred charity.

Blest be her memory.
