Hilma Hemstad, 95, died on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at her daughters home in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM on Friday, March 14, 2003, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plummer, MN with Reverend Frank Ehling officiating. Burial will be at Emardville Cemetery, Plummer, MN.
Visitation will be on Friday, one hour prior to the service in the church.
Hilma Westerlund was born July 31, 1907 at Red Lake Falls, MN, the daughter of John and Mary (Nelson) Westerlund. She was baptized and confirmed at Plummer, where she grew up and attended country school.
Hilma was united in marriage to John Hemstad at St. Hilaire, MN. The couple lived and farmed near Plummer, until they moved to town. Hilma was a cook for the Plummer School for 30 years and retired from the Plummer Bank as a custodian after 23 years.
She lived on the farm until moving into the Senior Housing in Plummer. After a stroke she moved to her daughters home in South Milwaukee, where she lived until her death.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and the American Legion Auxiliary of Plummer. Hilma, who was lovingly known as Granny to many, liked to embroider, read, garden, pick berries, bake bread and do wordsearch.
Survived by daughter, Dorothy Paquin, South Milwaukee, WI; 4 grandchildren, Diane (Steve) Spacek, South Milwaukee, WI, Greg (Sharon) Paquin, Jacksonville, FL, Don (Shelley) Paquin, Oak Creek, WI and Tom (Ruth) Paquin, Eau Claire, WI; 4 great grandchildren, Brook Spacek, Noah, Tyler and Sydney Paquin; a sister-in-law, Lorena Westerlund, Plummer, MN; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
