Hilma Kvamme Detroit Lakes, MN formerly of Thief River Falls, MN age 87 died on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Essentia Hospital in Detroit Lakes, MN with her family at her side. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Ale Tulu and Rev. John Golv officiating. Burial will follow at Viking Cemetery in Viking, MN. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Thursday September 26, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Hilma Elvera Kvamme was born on May 4, 1926 in Dahlen, ND the daughter of Harold E. Hansen and Amelia (Randklev) Hansen Rasmusgard Bjerken. She was baptized at the Dahlen Lutheran Church in Dahlen, ND and was confirmed at Fordville Lutheran Church in Fordville, ND. Hilma attended Dahlen public school through sixth grade; then moving to Fordville for 7th & 8th grade. She attended High School in Grand Forks, ND. Hilma was proud to have attended Aaker's Business College, graduating in bookkeeping. After graduation Hilma began her bookkeeping career in Grand Forks for Nodak Paper. On July 31, 1946 Hilma was united in marriage to Roy Teeman Kvamme in Grand Forks, ND. She continued her career working for Northern Pride and Arctic Cat. Born to this union were three daughters and two sons. Roy and Hilma spent most of their married life in Grand Forks; in January 1963 they moved to Viking, MN and continued raising their family. After Roy's death in 1990, Hilma moved into Thief River Falls, retiring in her 70's. In 2010 Hilma relocated to Audubon, MN to be with other family members. Hilma was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church; she was involved in Bible study and Stephen's Ministry. She gardened for years in Viking and Grand Forks; canning, putting up vegetables, baking and later in life she loved embroidery and was a reading enthusiast. Her children remember her for the time she spent on the computer e-mailing and playing games. Hilma is a five time cancer survivor. Survivors include her daughters, Rosalyn (Gorden) Sourdif of Thief River Falls, Cheryl (Richard) Kostrzewski of Thief River Falls, and Roylene Petersen (special friend Galen Halvorson) of Trail, MN; sons, Randall (Karen) Kvamme of Audubon, MN, and Ronald Kvamme of the Twin Cities area; sisters, Eleanor (Randy) Eggan of Fargo, ND, and Adeline Norheim of Rugby, ND; 28 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 25 step-great grandchildren; two great-great grandsons. Hilma was preceded in death by her husband Roy; her parents; two step fathers, Ole Rasmusgard, and Ludvig Bjerken; brothers, Marvin Randklev, Edgar Hanson, Olaf Rasmusgard, and two stillborn infant brothers; sisters, Eleanor Olga who died in infancy, and one stillborn infant sister; brother-in-law, Gary Medler; sisters-in-law, Elida Hanson, Ruth Rasmusgard, and June Rasmusgard; son-in-law, Steven Petersen; grandson-in-law, Wesley Srnsky; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Srnsky; and several cousins.
