Hilton Thomas McMahon JR of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at the Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN with his daughter by his side.
Memorial service will be held on Monday, February 15, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls with Reverend Bert Foster officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.
Hilton Thomas "Tom" McMahon JR was born May 13, 1956, in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Hilton and Pearl (Bjelland) McMahon. He was baptized and confirmed in a Baptist Church in Thief River Falls. He attended school and graduated from Harvey High School, Harvey, ND, in 1974.
Tom served his country with the United States Army from 1974-1976. Tom was a proud Veteran.
He was united in marriage to Julie Schmidtgall in July of 1977 and to this union 2 children were born, Jessica and Angela. Tom and Julie made their home in Thief River Falls, MN, Harvey, ND, and Denver CO. They were high school sweethearts and others commented on the love they had for one another. Tom loved his two girls, and he never missed an opportunity to brag about them.
He was employed at Arctic Cat, Wal-Mart, I.M.S and also did some work on the railroad. He worked security at Seven Clans Casino in Thief River Falls, and he worked at Walmart as well. Tom was a charismatic person and loved people. He enjoyed visiting with everyone which made his last two jobs perfect for him-he could smile and chat with whoever came by him. People who met Tom loved him, including the staff at the Care Center.
Tom made many friends over the course of his life; he was loved by many. Among his dearest friends was Scott Steedsman. Scott and Tom were friends for over 50 years and remained in contact until Tom passed. Tom was loyal, caring, and compassionate. He loved unconditionally, and he was a great father, husband, brother, son, and friend.
He married Pamela Hebert in 2004, but the two began making a life together in 1994. Tom and Pam lived in Thief River Falls during their marriage. The couple enjoyed traveling. The two took trips to Arizona regularly, and went to Hawaii and Las Vegas, to name a few. Tom enjoyed how Pam made the home beautiful with her gardens, often telling people with pride what a great job she did. During this time, Tom had a dog named Sadie, and she brought him such joy. He lovingly would take her everywhere he could, and he never missed an opportunity to brag about something cute she did.
He liked to hunt, fish, and camp. Tom loved the Minnesota Vikings, and he loved teasing his son-in-law each time the Vikings played the Packers. He loved westerns-both television/movies and books. He was an avid reader. Tom also loved professional wrestling. He loved Elvis and oldies music, and he would dance every chance he could. Tom loved vehicles-cars and trucks. He took pride in his cars, detailing them meticulously. Tom also loved car rides; he would often take people for a ride just to drive.
Hilton is survived by his wife, Pam of Thief River Falls, MN; children: Jessica Nordby, Red Lake Falls, MN, and Angela (Nick) Larson, Grygla, MN, step-sons Ryan (Angie Klaussen) Gryskiewicz and Joshua (Lindsie) Gryskiewicz, step-daughters Bethany (David) Koch and Nichole (John) Lofald; grandchildren Donovan (Kassandra), Julianne, Samantha, Olivia, Morgan, and Owen; step-grandchildren Taylor (Jack), Billie Jo, Andrew, McKenzie (Nick), Carissa, Ava, Olivia, Asa, and Rowan; great-grandchildren Domanic and Thora; great step-grandchildren Ethan and Deja; his sister Kathy (Kent) LeMoine, brothers Danny McMahon and LeRoy Strumgren; nieces Candice Miller, Holy (Jason) Funk, and Crystal (Jason) Cota; great-nieces Katrina, Callie, and Emily; great-nephews Brody and Logan, RJ and Jaydin; as well as numerous cousins.
Tom is proceeded in death by his first wife Julie, his mother, Pearl, father, Hilton Sr, step-father Severin Englund, sister Patricia McMahon, brother Robert McMahon, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In Lieu of flowers or cards the family suggests donating to Parkinson's Research, cancer research, diabetes foundation or the humane society.
