Obituary

Howard Comstock, 86, died on Friday, December 10, 2004 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls, MN.

Howard Francis Comstock was born on April 12, 1918, in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Francis and Martha (Nelson) Comstock. He attended school in Thief River Falls. Howard entered the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1936 and was Honorably Discharged in 1937. He entered the United States Army on March 10, 1942, serving in World War II, as a Section Sergeant. Howard received the American Theater Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal and five Overseas Bars, while he was in service. He was Honorably Discharged on December 1, 1945.

Howard was united in marriage to Delpha Anderson on June 25, 1949 at Trinity Lutheran Church. To this union five children were born.

Howard was a heavy equipment operator. He worked for the pipeline and local contractors in the area. He was an avid gardener and was very proud of his weed less gardens. Over the years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. Howard loved to spend time with his grandchildren and had many stories to tell them about his childhood and Army years.

Howard is survived by his wife, Delpha of Thief River Falls, MN; five children: Dennis (Karen) Comstock of Thief River Falls, MN, Dale Comstock and special friend, Diane, of Thief River Falls, MN, Daryl Comstock and special friend, Tammy, of Grygla, MN, Arden Bud Comstock of Thief River Falls, MN and Sandra (Scott) Johnson of Thief River Falls, MN; 20 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one brother, Harry (Vonnie) Comstock of Elk River, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Alvin, Everrett, as an infant, George and Ray; four sisters: Melvina, Flora, Ella and Ester, as an infant; and one granddaughter, Amy Lynn Rux.
