Howard Langlie, 81 years old, died at home, Thursday, July 31, 2008, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Funeral service will be at 2 PM, Monday, August 4, 2008 at St. John Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Aaron Zuch officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be 4 " 7 PM, Sunday, August 3, 2008 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a 6 PM prayer service. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Howard Lyall Langlie was born October 26, 1926 to Hans and Thora (Moe) Langlie in New Solum Township, near Newfolden, MN. He attended a country grade school and went on to graduate from Marshall County High School in Newfolden in 1945.
Howard married Ruby Busse, daughter of Albert and Lillian Busse, July 14, 1948; they celebrated their 60th Anniversary this year.
He went to Minneapolis, MN and was employed by Swift & Company for a short time, before returning to Thief River Falls. He then drove a bulk fuel truck for Western Oil & Fuel Company, Oens Fuel Service and Bugges Fuel Service and Station. During this time, he was also a substitute rural mail carrier for 10 years. He was employed at Arctic Enterprises in the machine shop for several years before retiring in 1993.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls. He was on a bowling team and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed all sports and particularly, keeping up with activities of his grandchildren. He was a voracious reader.
Howard is survived by loving wife, Ruby, Thief River Falls and 6 children: Lynette (Barry) Johnson, Detroit Lakes, MN, Roxanne (Tom) Nepper, Plymouth, MN, Cindy (Glenn) Fjelsted, Minnetonka, MN, Jeffrey (MaryJo) Langlie, Thief River Falls, MN, Scott (Kristi Hallstrom) Langlie, Thief River Falls, MN and Rick (Dawn) Langlie, Andover, MN;
12 grandchildren: Chad and Terry Johnson, Casey and Taylor Nepper, Nathan Melek, Cainan and Brandon Langlie, Shanon, Joshua and Samantha Langlie, Alex and Sierra Langlie; 5 great grandchildren: Zachary and Haley Johnson, Lynsey, Gracie and Tucker Johnson.
Howard is also survived by siblings: Ione (Arne) Tuura, Middle River, MN, Gale (Carol) Langlie, Brooklyn Park, MN Gloria (Orvald) Rokke, Newfolden, MN and Mavis Hansen, Phoenix, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Dennis Langlie; sister Mildred Oseth and 1 infant sister.
