Obituary

Hubert Gonsorowski Thief River Falls, MN age 86, died on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls, MN with his loving family at his side. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Thief River Fall, MN. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post 2793 and Ecklund-Holmstrom American Legion Post 117. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM on Wednesday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Hubert Henry Gonsorowski was born on November 4, 1927 the son of Louis and Mary (Pasche) Gonsorowski. He was born on a farm in Walsh County, ND and later moved to a farm east of Argyle, MN. He attended Schey Country School east of Argyle. Hubert worked on the family farm and also worked at Armour Meat Packing Plant in Grand Forks. In August of 1946, Hubert enlisted into service with the United States Army. He was stationed at Ft. Lewis and overseas on the Korean border. He was a member of the motor pool that surveyed the 49th Parallel. Following his Honorable Discharge, Hubert returned to work at the Algot Anderson Garage in Argyle, MN under the G.I. bill. On November 25, 1947, Hubert was united in marriage to Ione Vanyo at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Argyle. To this union six children were born, Gary, Yvonne, Duane, Louis, Gerald and Roger. They continued to live in Argyle where he owned and operated Hubert's Standard Oil Service Station, to which he became one of the first dealers to sell Arctic Cat snowmobiles. In the fall of 1969, the family moved to Thief River Falls, MN. Hubert operated the Gulf Service Station on the property where the law enforcement center is today. In 1971, he bought property on the west side of Thief River Falls where he built Hubert's Service Center with his brother, Conrad as a partner. In 1993, Hubert retired and sold his share of the business to Conrad. In his retirement, he enjoyed helping/socializing at his son, Duane's business, Hubert's Outdoor Power. Hubert was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus and the MN Deer Hunters Association. He was also a member of the Eagles, American Legion Post, and VFW Post. Hubert was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and spending time with his family and friends. He especially loved his time with his special friends at the Grygla Deer Camp and Cyrus Resort. Hubert was very proud of all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandsons. Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Ione; daughter, Yvonne (Tim) Benedict; sons, Duane (Diane) Gonsorowski, Louis Gonsorowski, Gerald (MaryBeth) Gonsorowski all of Thief River Falls, and Roger (Jenny) Gonsorowski of Goodridge, MN; grandchildren, Michael Benedict, Rachel Benedict, Paul (Jackie) Gonsorowski, Jenni (Chris) Restad, Mauri (Anthony) Roy, Leanna Gonsorowski, Noah Gonsorowski, Geran Gonsorowski, Jazlyn Gonsorowski, Nick Gonsorowski; great-grandchildren, Gannon & Easton Gonsorowski and Gunner Restad; brothers, Daniel Gonsorowski and Edward Gonsorowski; sister-in-law, Betty Gonsorowski; brother-in-law, Gaylord Loughrey; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Gary; brothers, Leonard, Florian, Joseph and Conrad; and sisters, Rose Kurowski and MaryAnn Loughrey.
