Idella Samuelson, Thief River Falls, age 89, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Greenleaf Assisted Living, Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, December 15, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend John Voelker officiating.  Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5 – 8 PM Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN, with a prayer service at 7 PM.  Visitation will also be one hour prior to service at the church Friday.

Idella Marie Samuelson was born September 17, 1928 at Plummer, MN daughter of Victor and Clara (Froiland) Medchill. She attended school at Pershing High School in Plummer graduating in 1946. She attended Moorhead State Teachers College and received her teaching degree.

On April 6, 1956 she was united in marriage to Charles Samuelson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. They made their home in Thief River Falls where Idella taught a Knox Elementary School for 9 years. She took time off to raise her family and was a substitute teacher in Thief River Falls for 16 years.

Idella was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls where she served on many committees including WELCA. They enjoyed traveling, when the family was young they traveled throughout the country with their camper. In retirement they made 8 trips to Europe and one to Australia. Idella enjoyed finding souvenirs from each of those trips. Idella was an avid reader and has been a member of book clubs in her retirement. Her family meant everything to her.

Idella was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a loyal friend, a loving sister, and a true hand maiden of our Lord, Jesus Christ. She dedicated her life in service to her church furthering the Kingdom of God, and caring for her husband and family.  She touched the lives of thousands of people through her teaching and public service, and she left the world a better place through her loving kindness, limitless love and generosity.

She is survived by her children David Samuelson of San Antonio, TX, Sarah (John) Kondratuk of Flagstaff, AZ, and Matthew (Andrea) Samuelson of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren Nicole (Eli) Corbin of Superior, WI, Joshua Madden of Big Lake, MN, Kevin Kondratuk of  Madison, WI, Carrie Kondratuk of Bozeman, MT, Lindsey (Brandon) Smith of Milton, PA, Peter Samuelson of Thief River Falls, MN, Abigale Samuelson of Thief River Falls, MN and Jacob Samuelson of Thief River Falls, MN, Haley Samuelson of Austin, TX, Hope Samuelson of Lynchburg, VA, Hannah Samuelson of Schertz, TX; great-grandchildren Ella, Molly and Noelle Corbin, and Isla Madden; sister, Clarice Miller of Thief River Falls, MN.

Idella is preceded in death by her husband Charles and parents Victor and Clara.
