Ione Poole, 76 of Thief River Falls, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friend on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

The service to honor Ione's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN, with Rev. Kristin Ostercamp officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Ione G. Poole was born on July 1, 1947, in Devils Lake, North Dakota to Clarence M. and Laura M. (Hursman) Bratvold. She was baptized in Brocket, North Dakota. Her father passed away in 1947 and she moved with her family to Fort Benton, Montana in 1952 after her mom married Trygve Birkland. She grew up in Fort Benton and graduated from High School in 1965.

She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, graduating in 1969 with a BA in Social Work. She started working at Pennington County Social Services in Thief River Falls, in February of 1970 as a social worker. She started working at NW Service Cooperative in Thief River Falls and then went to the Northwest Medical Center as a hospital social worker until 2007.

Ione was united in marriage to Stan Gibson on December 26, 1981 on an island on Bass Lake. He passed away in September of 2005. She then married Kenneth Poole at the Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls on April 18, 2009. He passed away in August of 2021.

Ione loved snowmobiling, going to deer camp, playing Cribbage, and spending time with family.

Ione is preceded in death by her husbands, father, mother, step-father, sisters Lois, Myrtle and Ethel, nephews Kirk Ferree, stepchildren: James Gibson and Kent Gibson.

She is survived by her sister, Karen Wolf of Great Falls, MT, and her sons, James, Matthew, and Mickey; her nieces, Vicky, Peggy, Shelly and Sheila; grandchildren, Chrysi Gibson and her son, Zander, Amy (Matt) Vanlith and their daughters, Sophie and Kendall; best friend, Marlys Knutson; Stan's children, Judy, Robert (Shelly), Kristi and their children and grandchildren; Ken's children; Sheryl (Fayne), Diane (Ron), and David (Susan), their children and grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
