Irene Agnes Benoit, 95, of Red Lake Falls, MN died on Sunday, May 27, 2001 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN. Arrangements with Johnson Funeral service in Red Lake Falls, MN.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Tim Bushy Officiating. Burial will be held in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 5 " 8 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral service in Red Lake Falls. No visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday.

Irene Agnes Lizotte was born July 16, 1905 in Louisville Township, Red Lake County, MN daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Corbin) Lizotte. She was raised in Louisville Township and attended rural school. On November 24, 1924 she was united in marriage to Ernest Benoit Sr. at Dorothy, MN. The couple lived in Red Lake Falls where she raised her 12 children. In 1969 she moved to Thief River Falls where she resided until July of 2000 when she moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls. Ernest passed away September 21, 1975.
Irene was a homemaker and mother who enjoyed dancing, quilting, gardening, cooking and canning. She loved family visits and playing cards. Irene was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Thief River Falls and since returning to Red Lake Falls was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children Bernice (John) Johanneck of Crivitz, WI; Delores Turgeon of Baudette, MN; Alvin (Lois) Benoit of Kent, WA; Donald (Agnes) Benoit of S. Milwaukee, WI; Theresa (Kenny) Markowski of Oak Creek, WI; Ernest Benoit Jr. of Oak Creek, WI; Jeanette Schmidt of Bemidji, MN; Jim Benoit of Red Lake Falls and Roger (Julie) Benoit of Norwalk, CA: 46 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. One sister Mary (Walt) Mason of Libby, MT. Daughters-in-law Arlene (Benoit) St. Marie and Lorraine Benoit of Red Lake Falls, MN: son-in-law Leo Vondeal. Many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Irene is preceded in death by her husband Ernest Benoit Sr.: two sons Raymond Benoit and Robert Benoit, daughter Phyllis Vondal, one infant daughter; one infant grandson Michael James Benoit, one granddaughter Debra Moler: brothers Dan Lizotte, Walter Lizotte and Arthur Lizotte, Pat Lizotte and sister Florence Boutain: sons in law Myron Naudil, Jim Turgeon Sr. and Bernard Schmidt.
