J. Duane Nelson St. Cloud, MN formerly of Goodridge, MN age 80 died peacefully on Wednesday, December 03, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his wife and children. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Friday, December 12, 2014 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Stephen, MN with Father George Noel presiding. Burial will be at St. Stephen's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM on Friday, December 12, 2014 at St. Stephen Catholic Church. James Duane Nelson was born April 30, 1934 in Marshall County, MN, the son of Arthur and Lillian (Vary) Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed at Red River Catholic Mission Church and attended country school in Marshall County. On June 22, 1955, J. Duane was united in marriage to Elizabeth M. Byzewski at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Drayton, ND. J. Duane and Elizabeth farmed near Goodridge, Pennington County, MN. He was a farmer all his life. He is survived by wife, Elizabeth "Betty" of St. Cloud, MN; 7 children, Deborah (Donald) Maruska, Rebecca (Mark) Evich, Tammy (David) Ewert, Dee Nelson, Randy (Mary Jo) Nelson, Jodie (Rodney) Kragness, and Lisa (Michael) Amberg; 15 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 3 brothers: LeRoy (Lucille) Nelson, Larry (Doris) Nelson, Gary (JoAnn) Nelson; sister, Alice Knutson: sisters-in-law, Rita Nelson and Darlene Nelson; brother-in-law, Harry Anderson; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lillian; siblings, Lawrence Nelson, LaVerne Nelson, Marion (George) Gryskiewicz, Hazel Anderson and Eileen (Orville) Knutson; and brother-in-law, Reuben Knutson.
