Jim Berg 74, of Goodridge, MN passed away on Monday, September 5, 2016 in Manvel, ND.

Memorial services will be at Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge, MN, 1:00 PM Saturday, September 10, 2016 with Reverend Philip Johnson Officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

James Berg was born on May 15, 1942 to Stanley Gustav and Alma (Kaliokiski) Berg.  He was born at his grandmother's place in Ramsey County, ND near Lakota, ND.  His dad teased him that the midwife cost $5.  He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Doyan, ND.

Jim attended school at Doyan for his first 11 years.  The school closed his senior year and he graduated from high school in Lakota in 1960.  He was active in 4-H and also played basketball during his adolescence.

Jim attended college at NDSU and earned a degree in Animal Science with a minor in agriculture in 1964.  He met his future wife Joan Eileen Magnuson while going to college.  They were united in marriage on September 19, 1964 in Devils Lake, ND at St. Olaf's Lutheran Church. They made their home in Lamoure, ND, where they lived a short few months, when they moved to Wahpeton, ND in December in 1964. They lived there until March of 1966. They rented a farm near Devils Lake until 1971. In 1971, Jim and Joan moved to Goodridge where they continued farming.  Jim also worked in the machine shop at Arctic Cat for 10 years, retiring in 2010.

He enjoyed gardening and flower gardening.  Jim canned his produce and shared it with his family and friends.  He has enjoyed remodeling his home over that last few years.  Jim has volunteered at the Thief River Care Center for the last few years.  He had earned his 5 gallon pin for donating blood with the Red Cross.  He also enjoyed fishing in Thief River Falls by the dam and would often help the kids along the dam with their fishing skills.

Jim is survived by one daughter Jodi (Matt) Smithwick, Moorhead, MN, one son Jeff (Becky) Berg, Warroad, MN, 2 grandchildren, Logan Berg, Pensacola, FL and Ali Berg, Charleston, SC;  2 sisters:  Dorthea Surerus, Fargo, ND, Stanlyn (Russ) Margulies, Northfield, MN, 2 brothers:  Dennis (Sandra) Berg, Rolla, ND, Douglas (Mary) Berg, Doyan, ND along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Alma, and his wife Joan Berg in 2008.
