James "Jim" Fisher Thief River Falls, MN age 71, died on Thursday, July 04, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND with his loving family at his side. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 12, 2013 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Friday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. James Edward Fisher was born on July 10, 1941 in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Edward and Louise (Rolland) Fisher. He was baptized at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Goodridge, MN and confirmed at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN, attended St. Bernard's School, and graduated from Lincoln High School, Thief River Falls in 1959. Following high school, Jim managed the Falls Theateremploying many family members, raced a stock car, and worked as an apprentice electrician. On July 20, 1961, he married Beverly Ann Gustafson. The couple continued to live in Thief River Falls, raising their family there as well as providing foster care to area youth. Jim and Bev established Fisher Electric in 1969, which employed and served many in the community. He also taught electrical certification classes at the local AVTI. Later in his career, Jim served and presided on the board of the Minnesota Electrical Association. He sold the business in 2011 and retired. Throughout his life, Jim was an active member of St. Bernard's Parish, having served on boards and committees, distributing Eucharist, reading, and visiting the sick. In September 2002, Jim and Janet Paulson Kramer were married. Jim welcomed Janet's family into his as his own, traveling often with Janet and sons. Together, they traveled, loved their grandchildren, remodeled their home, and welcomed many there. Jim was active in civic organizations: Jaycees, Kiwanis, Elks, and most recently Golden Pioneers. He was an avid and distinguished leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He had many hobbies: motorcycles, camping, reading, photography, traveling, and, above all else--downhill skiing. He taught many family members, friends, church and scout youth to love the sport. Upon retirement, Jim continued to provide care and love for others as a foster grandparent at St. Bernard's School. Jim is survived by his wife, Janet Fisher, Thief River Falls; his children: Steve Fisher (Anne), Brainerd, MN; Molly Dahlin (Blaine), Thief River Falls; Patrick Fisher, New Prague, MN; Michael Fisher (Leslie), Thief River Ralls, MN; William Kramer (Nicole), Gonvick, MN; and Christopher Kramer (Sara Niemela), Thief River Falls, MN; his 12 grandchildren: Sylvia and Thea Fisher; Emily, Natalie, and Cameron Dahlin; Bailee and Morgan Nordheim and Ridge Fisher; Triston, Presley, Peyton, and Tahlen Kramer; his brothers and sisters: Mary Lou Jasken (Harold), Alexandria, MN; Gene Fischer (Sheila Kendro), San Diego, CA; Veronica Fisher, Asheville, NC; Marty Fisher (Cindy Doll), Minneapolis, MN; Ann Marie Fisher, Redwood Shores, CA; Virginia Fisher (John Canfield), Comptche, CA; Jerry Fisher (Peg Edel), San Diego, CA; as well as his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from the Gustafson and Paulson families and many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Louise Fisher; wife, Beverly Fisher; sisters, Florence Ann and Judith Mary Fisher; and brother, Cyril Patrick Fisher; further, in his wider family: fathers-in-law, Benjamin Gustafson and Arthur C. Paulson; mothers-in-law, Eva Gustafson and Elizabeth J. Paulson; brothers-in law, Arthur Love, John (Jack) Gustafson and David L. Paulson; and sisters-in-law, Mary Gustafson, Beverly Gustafson, and Jackie Paulson. Jim was a loving, generous man. He will be deeply missed.
