Corporal James Norman Sund, 28, died while Prisoner of War on April 24, 1951 in Korea.

James Norman Sund was born on March 14, 1923 the son of Evan J. and Marie Christine (Sedig) Sund. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith and attended school at Highlanding, MN. James helped his family with farming. James liked to read, fish and hunt deer. He would always be willing to help the neighbors when they needed help; and he liked to farm.

James enlisted in the United States Army. Corporal James Norman Sund was a member of Company K, 3 ^rd Battalion, 9 ^th Infantry Regiment, 2 ^nd Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy in South Korea on February 12, 1951 and was killed while a prisoner on April 24, 1951. His remains were not recovered until recently. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. Corporal Sund was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Survivors include three sisters, Mabel Hayes of Akron, OH, Sophie Rambeck of Thief River Falls, MN and Mathilda Sund of Grand Forks, ND; two brothers, Martin Sund of Thief River Falls, MN and Orvin Sund of Thief River Falls, MN; and several other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gladys Olson; brother, Evan Sund; baby brother, Barent Sund; and brother, Floyd Sund.

8:30 AM : Minnesota Army National Guard Honor Guard short ceremony and form funeral procession to go through

Thief River Falls past the Sund home farm on route to Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge, MN. Escort will be led by Pennington County Sheriff Dept., TRF Police Dept., & Patriot Guard.

9:15—9:30 AM : Arrive at Faith Lutheran Church, Goodridge, MN

Minnesota Army National Guard Honor Guard will carry casket into church

9:30—10:30 AM : Visitation & gathering time at church

10:30 AM : Funeral at Faith Lutheran Church

Rev. Robert Dahlen will officiate

Kaitlin Lund & Diane Johnson will offer special music

11:30 AM : Funeral Procession to Highlanding Cemetery, south of Goodridge, MN
