Janeen Kalsnes, 57, passed away Friday, November 9, 2012 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis, MN. Funeral service will be 10 AM, Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend John Golv officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be 5 - 8 PM, Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to the funeral at the church, Thursday. Janeen Lila Burstad was born September 25, 1955 in Thief River Falls, MN the daughter of Milton and Della (Cork) Burstad. She was baptized at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Janeen grew up in Thief River Falls and attended Washington Elementary and Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls graduating in 1974. She graduated from Northland Technical College, Thief River Falls, in 1976 with a degree in Liberal Arts, and in 1978 she graduated from Bemidji State University, Bemidji, MN with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. On September 1, 1978, Janeen was united in marriage to Kenneth Kalsnes at Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls. The couple lived in Thief River Falls. Janeen was employed as a social worker with NW Regional Interdistrict Council in the Newfolden, MN area, traveling the area; was employed at Independent School District #564 in 1986 as a braillist. She worked at Johnson Riverside Boarding Home as Program Director for 20 years; Janeen was a substitute teacher for the last 5 years at Challenger Elementary School. On February 3, 2012, they moved to Phoenix, AZ. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she served as Sunday School Superintendent, taught Sunday School and also was active in 4-H. Janeen loved to travel and had been to Italy, London, Hawaii and Disney World. She liked shopping, photography, decorating, crafting, flower gardening, scrapbooking, spending time on the cellphone communicating with family and friends, and teaching herself how to use the latest technology. Most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Janeen is survived by husband, Ken, Phoenix, AZ; children: Jamie (Ryan) Bakken, Thief River Falls, MN, Derek Kalsnes, East Grand Forks, MN and Andrew Kalsnes, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Andraya and Karena Bakken, mother: Della Burstad, brothers and sisters: Gary (Nancy) Burstad, Rock Springs, WY, Mike (Sue) Burstad, Casper, WY, Pam (Doug) Dallmann, Thief River Falls, MN and Patti (Loren) Slette, Duluth, MN, the Kalsnes family, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by father, Milt Burstad on September 17, 2012, grandparents, Alvin & Sophie Burstad, Ernest & Lillian Cork, father-in-law, Harold Kalsnes, cousins, one uncle and two aunts.
