Janice I. Freitag, 65, Plummer, MN died Sunday, September 24, 2006 at Philadelphia, PA.

Mass of Christian Burial will beat 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 29, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN with Father Tim Bushy presiding. Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery in Plummer, MN.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service on Thursday evening and one hour prior to service at the church on Friday.

Janice Isabelle LaFebvre was born March 24, 1941 in Red Lake County, MN, the daughter of Alveda and Louise (Charest) LaFebvre. She was raised on a farm near Oklee, MN and attended school in Oklee, graduating from Pershing High School in Plummer in 1959. Janice was Homecoming Queen in the fall of 1958.

Janice was united in marriage to Gene Mattison at Oklee. The couple lived in Milwaukee, WI for a time until moving back to Plummer in 1962. They purchased and operated East Side Service in Plummer. Gene died in 1969 and Janice continued to run the East Side Service until the early 1970s. On April 9, 1975 Janice married Jerry Freitag in Winnipeg, Canada. Janice worked at Plummer School until 1984, when she attended and graduated from Northland College with an Associate in Business Degree. She also worked at Northern Motors and Thune Insurance before joining her husband at St. Hilaire Ag Insurance in 1992 until her retirement in 2004.

She enjoyed golfing, gardening, traveling, skiing and the outdoors. Janice loved spending time with her family and friends.

She was a former member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church until it closed. Janice is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, served on the Plummer City Council, Scout Leader, a member of Plummer Lioness, American Legion Auxiliary, Red Hats, Religious Education Teacher, and Baseball Team Nurse. Janice was very active in the Plummer Community happenings.

Janice is survived by her husband Jerry, 6 children: Dale (Debbie), Colorado Springs, CO; Neil (Linda), Thief River Falls, MN; Gerry Lee, Thief River Falls, MN; Alan (Valerie), St. Hilaire, MN; James (Teresa), Thief River Falls, MN; Karl (Nancy), Amessville, Virginia; 15 grandchildren: Cory, Chris, Coral, Richard, Eric, Brad, Sarah, Sam, Jacob, Joshua, Ryan, Michael, William, Taylor, Levi; 2 brothers: Michael (Peggy), Henderson, NV; James (Linda) Sauk Rapids, MN; 4 sisters: Donna (Lester) Champagne, Aurora, WI; Eileen (Mark) Walsh, North St. Paul, MN; Carol (Lee) Hagelee, Edina, MN; Marilyn (Donovan) Stoneouse, Thief River Falls, MN; sister in law, Becky LeFebvre, Richfield, MN; 1 brother in law, Jim (Shirley) Jaeger, St. Paul, MN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Janice was preceded in death by her first husband Gene, parents, brother William, and sister Audrey Jaeger.
