Janice Peterson of Staples, MN passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at Lakewood Health Center in Staples, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial for Janice will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Bob Schreiner officiating. Burial will be held at St. Dorothy Cemetery, Dorothy, MN.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 starting at 5:00 PM and run till 7:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Janice Raye (Boutain) Peterson was born June 25, 1951 in Crookston, MN daughter of Andrew and Eva (Starken) Boutain. She was raised on a farm near Dorothy, MN. She attended Woodland Country School through 6th grade, then went to Red Lake Falls public school and in the middle of her senior year she moved with her parents to Plummer, MN where she completed her senior year with the class of 1969.
In May of 1970 Milt Peterson returned home from Vietnam. On Memorial Day she met Milt at the Hanson Bar in Plummer. They fell in love right away and after a whirlwind courtship they were married at St. Dorothy Catholic Church in Dorothy, MN on Labor Day that same year. To this union 2 sons were born Chad and Ryan. The couple celebrated 55 years on September 5, 2025.
Through the 55 year years they purchased 8 homes and moved 10 times. Janice had a knack for making each and every home a loving welcome, comfortable home.
Janice was a wonderful wife, companion and counselor to Milt. She was always there to support and be there for him. She was a wonderful mother to their sons. She was a kind loving counselor and best friend to Chad and Ryan. She loved and adored their two grandchildren Mikayla and Mason. They were the light of her life.
Janice was a very intelligent, positive, cheerful and loving person. She could light up a room with her smile and make family and friends welcome. She was Milt's rock and support for all their years together. She will be missed by all who were touched by her.
Janice is survived by her loving husband Milt Peterson; sons Chad (Lori) and Ryan (Kim); sister Julie (Chuck) Tydlacka; sister-in-law Lorna Jesme many nieces, nephews and cousins; grandchildren Mikayla and Mason and their mother Cindy Peterson.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents Andy and Eva; father and mother-in-law Leonard (Mildred) Peterson, step mother-in-law Bernice Peterson; sister-in-law Janet (Duane) Torkelson; brother-in-law Allan Peterson; grandparents, many uncles, aunts and cousins.
