Janice Svendsgaard, 68, died Friday, July 2, 2010 at her home with her family by her side in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be 10 AM, Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge, MN with Pastor Bob Dahlen officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Prayer service at 7:00 PM.

Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN following the service.

Janice Leah Svendsgaard was born February 15, 1942 in Thief River Falls, MN the daughter of Adolph and Muriel (Lubitz) Steinhauer. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Jan attended school at Holt Elementary and graduated from High School at Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN.

She was united in marriage to Dale Svendsgaard on September 1, 1962 and they made their home in Mavie, MN. Marriage, family and children were very importat to Jan. She and Dale were blessed with four children, Lydell, Krystal, Twyla and Kyle. As a family, they spent many summers and winters at Waskish fishing, 4-wheeling, and swimming at the beach.

Jan enjoyed working as a leader with the Mavie 4-H Club. She was also active as a Sunday School teacher, served as past president of the Thief River Falls Skating Club and was the Director of the Minnesota State Auctioneers Association Auxiliary. Jan and Dale worked together from 1965 till the present in the Auction business.

Making wood crafts, playing cards, especially pinochle, smear and whist, spending time with her friends and making stained glass pictures were some of Jans many pastimes. However, her favorite pastime was oil painting, especially wildlife and floral scenes.

Jan worked in the healthcare field, Arctic Cat, Pamida and for the last 10 years at Digi-Key Corporation all in Thief River Falls, MN.

She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge, MN.

Jans family would like to thank Hospice of the Red River Valley for all the special care they provided for her. They would also like to thank Jans brother, Gail for the special music he provided during the funeral service. It meant a lot to her.

Survivors include her husband, Dale of Thief River Falls, MN; three children, Lydell of Barnum, MN, Twyla (Craig) Race of Mountain Iron, MN, and Kyle (Krista Kuznia) of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren, Samantha Race, Kimberly Race, Nicholle Race, Brooklyn Svendsgaard and Carter Svendsgaard; brothers, Allen (Holly) Steinhauer of Thief River Falls, MN, Gail (Angie) Steinhauer of Holt, MN; Tom (Peggy Bergsnev) Steinhauer of Holt, MN; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Krystal Lea.
