Janis Witthoft, of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away at Sanford Hospital in Fargo North Dakota on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at the age of 57.

Janis Witthoft was born on March 18, 1963 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Louis and Shirley (Gogerty) Witthoft. She attended school at Apple Valley High School and graduated in 1981. She attended St Cloud State and Mankato State University.

In 1993 Janis moved to Thief River Falls and a few years later met her soulmate Todd Greisen. Janis had one daughter, Sarah Dokkin, and Janis and Todd were thrilled when their granddaughter, Shaelynn Jorstad was born.

Janis worked in the hospitality industry for many years but her favorite position was working as a para in a school in TRF.  She enjoyed gardening, baking, traveling, and spending time with her granddaughter. Shae was the love of her life and any activity that included Shae was one Janis enjoyed.

Janis was a happy and generous person. She found her community at Greenwood Terrace where she had many friends and enjoyed helping others in need. She participated in many activities there, including bingo, and volunteered her time to care for others when needed. Her passion was collecting free samples of products and she would share these with the other residents.

Janis is survived by her daughter, Sarah Dokkin of Thief River Falls, MN, and granddaughter, Shaelynn Jorstad; sisters, Jean Witthoft of Minneapolis, and Julie Glynn (Gene) of Waseca MN; brothers, Charles (Carolyn) Witthoft of California and William (Kristi) Witthoft of Arizona; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her partner Richard (Todd) Greisen, her father and mother, Louis and Shirley Witthoft.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 25, 2020 at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN.

A celebration of her life will be at a later date, post covid 19.
