NOTICE OF TIME CHANGE BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER:
JIMMIE'S FUNERAL WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY AT 10:30 AM BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER.
Jimmie Meyer, 69, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Minnesota Veterans Home, Fergus Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN with Pastor Tom Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Emardville Cemetery, rural Plummer, MN. Military honors will be provided by the Plummer American Legion.
Visitation will be on Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 2-5 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
Jimmie Neil Meyer was born on March 7, 1941 to Alpen and Lucille (LaFayette) Meyer at home in rural Plummer. He attended school and graduated from Pershing High School in Plummer. He then served his country in the US Army as a helicopter mechanic stationed in Hawaii.
He worked at the LTV open pit mine in Calumet and then was transferred to the McKinnley extension near Aurora, MN. He worked many different jobs in the mines including heavy equipment, truck driving, and laborer. He worked for the mines for over 20 years.
He met JoAnne Adeline Danielson while working in the mines and they were married on August 3, 1978 in Milbank, South Dakota. They lived the first year near Grand Rapids, MN and then settled south of Plummer in 1979. He worked for Vigen construction for a while and then returned to working in the mines, commuting back and forth from their home near Plummer. He retired in 1991.
Jimmie liked hunting deer and trapping fox. He was an avid fisherman in all seasons. He was happy anywhere he could drop a line in the water. He did some wood working and had built his family gifts like jewelry chests. Reading and watching the History Channel were also favorite past times for Jimmie. He was diagnosed with MS in 1991. Jimmie has lived the past five years at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. He was member of the Plummer American Legion.
He is survived by his wife JoAnne, Plummer, MN, 5 children: Pam Dack, Bloomington, MN, Troy Meyer, Fargo, ND, Terry Danielson, Bucyrus, OH, Shellie (Scott) Driscoll, NC, Todd Danielson, Plummer, MN, 9 grandchildren: Tyler Dack, Bryan & Jeffrey Meyer, Adam, Brandon, & Devin Danielson, Chris Danielson, William & Mandy Driscoll, 2 great grandchildren: Ethan Danielson & Skyler Driscoll, 3 sisters: Karen (Budd) Burthwick, Grand Rapids, MN, Marlys Maki, Plummer, MN, Jeanine (Randy) Pahlen, Plummer, MN, and several nieces and nephews, uncles and aunts, other relatives and friends.
Jimmie is preceded in death by granddaughter Angel Joy Danielson, and his parents.
