Joan Hruby died Monday, October 4, 2010 at Sanfords Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, ND at the age of 54 years, 4 months and 3 days. May her memory be blessed.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Thursday October 7, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Robert Dahlen officiating. Burial will be at Silverton Cemetery, rural Thief River Falls.

Visitation will be 5 " 8 PM, Wednesday October 6, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, with a 7 PM prayer service and also one hour before the service, Thursday.

Joan Annette Hagen was born on June 1, 1956 to Howard O. and Janet L. (Berg) Hagen at Devils Lake, ND. She was baptized on July 15, 1956 at Saint Olaf Lutheran Church in Devils Lake, ND and confirmed on September 24, 1972 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Joan attended Washington Elementary School and Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls. She was united in marriage to Richard D. Hruby Jr. on August 9, 1975 at Trinity Lutheran Church. After marriage, she worked at Northwest Medical Center in the OB ward for a number of years. She also did a brief stint at Arctic Cat in the late 1970s. Joan then worked for School District 564 for 20 years. Following that, Joan held several jobs including: Evergreen Eating Emporium, Hi Performance Engineering, Dakota Clinic for about 5 years, Greenleaf Assisted Living, and lastly at Purdy Shoes, until her illness didnt allow her to work anymore.

Joan was all about being with her friends and family. Her personality and enthusiasm lit up a room wherever she was. She enjoyed camping, traveling, and shopping. She loved baking cookies with her grandchildren and hosting big family dinners. She was a really good cook. Collecting angels and sno babies was a favorite pastime. She loved decorating her house. At Christmas time, she would set up elves and then help the grandchildren find them all over the house. Joan was active with the Pennington County Fair Board. She found peace and closeness to God when she jumped on her lawnmower and cut the grass.

Joan is survived by her husband of 35 years Richard Hruby, Jr, Thief River Falls, MN; 3 sons: Jason (Ginger) Hruby, Thief River Falls, MN, Tim (Alissa) Hruby, Goodridge, MN, Brian Hruby, Thief River Falls, MN, 3 grandchildren: Madeline, Logan, and Gres Hruby, her mother Janet Hagen, Thief River Falls, MN, mother in law Evelyn Hruby, Thief River Falls, MN, 2 brothers: Mark (Cathy) Hagen, Thief River Falls, MN, David (Sandy) Hagen, St. Hilaire, MN, brother in law Michael (Carla) Hruby, Thief River Falls, MN, and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Howard Hagen, and father in law Richard Hruby Sr. and her grandparents.
