Obituary

Joan Schob Thief River Falls, MN, 90, died Friday, November 29, 2013 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine, MN with her loving family at her side. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Burial will be held at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 prayer service on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls MN. Visitation will also be held from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM on Tuesday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Joan Elizabeth Schindelholtz was born on July 19, 1923 in Fond du Lac, WI the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Blitzke) Schindelholtz. She was baptized and confirmed into the catholic faith at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. Joan attended St. Mary's Elementary School and graduated from Goodridge High School in Fond du Lac in 1941. Following high school, Joan worked for the Infant Sock's Company and then went to work in the canning department at the Green Giant Company. On January 8, 1944 Joan was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Delwin Walter Schob in Richmond, VA. Del was deployed overseas with the United States Army and Joan returned to live in Fond du Lac, WI with her family. Following his Honorable Discharge, Del and Joan made their home in Fond du Lac where he worked for the Soo Line Railroad and Joan stayed home with their son, Delwin. The couple moved to Thief River Falls in 1954 where Delwin continued to work for the Soo Line Railroad. Soon after, the family was blessed with a son, James and daughter, Sandra. Joan was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church where she was active in the guild, bible study, Diocesan Annual Appeal, and did a lot of the financial work for the new St. Bernard's Church. She was a life-long member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing clothing for herself and her family; was a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader when her children were involved, and also enjoyed knitting, flower and vegetable gardening, feeding the birds, was a great cook, and in her spare time raised foster children. Survivors include her children: Delwin (Patricia) Schob, Thief River Falls, MN., Sandra Ann Schob, Fargo, ND and special family friend Mary Ann Donnay, Fargo, ND. Grandchildren, Dawn (James) Webster, San Jose, CA, Tanya (Timothy) Loe and Cheryl (Robert Rodahl) Schob, all of Thief River Falls, MN and Jennifer (Kirk) Thorson, Larimore, ND; great grandchildren: Grace Webster, Hanna Webster, Samantha Rodahl, William Thorson, Leah Thorson, Jude Thorson and Lydia Thorson; and four foster children: Mary, Julie, Marge and Betty; sisters-in-law, Primrose Schindelholtz and Joanne Schob both in Fond du Lac, WI; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Delwin on April 19, 2007; son, James in 1982, infant son, Gregory, infant daughter, Barbara and baby girl Schob; siblings; Helen Donahue, Joseph "Buzz" Schindelholtz and Flora Kim.
